Devil's Horse

Featured Replies

Yesterday my friend and I went to his father's house on Lake Seminole. It is on the Fla,Ga border. When we went into his fathers den he had 11 bass over ten lbs mounted.I asked him what he

caught them on.He said he had caught all but one on a Devil's Horse.I used to use them as a kid

but I haven't heard anything about them for a long time.Think I'll give them a try again.

Anyone here fish a Devil's Horse?

Tallahassee

Absolutely.  It's my favorite topwater.  I hope to get to fish it on Seminole once the hydrilla dies down some.  We flipped the hydrilla out in front of Wingate's and up in Spring Creek area all day Saturday and only caught 4.

Not familiar with it.

Guess its time for a google search.

Always effective when topwater is the choice:

If you are just buying one, the "Frog" pattern is traditional.

Probably my Favorite Topwater bait when the water has allot of "Chop" on it. I usually go with the 1/2oz Tenn Shad color or Sliver Black Back. As always switch out the stock treble hooks for some premium hooks. Dont forget to wait until you feel the wait of the fish before you set the hook.

I use the 1/2 oz white with black stripes.  It has a little red on the nose.  I haven't bought any in Tallahassee, but if I see any I'll let you know.

That's the same one I use.

How do you fish this lure? ...I love the topwater action this looks like my next lure purchase...

It's a prop bait so pull hard to get the propellers going and then let it set.Don't try to walk the dog,the propellers will interfere. It is designed to be pulled straight.

The WalMart on Thomasville Road has a few in both sizes.

I seen a article in Bassmaster back when it was a great magazine about a guy down south that used um YEAR round all he used was devils horse .Said it was all he needed ;)

That guy's name would be Top Water Charlie. I get to fish against him in November on the Harris chain at the ABA nationals. I have met him before and

he knows more about a Devil's Horse than you would ever believe. He litterly

See's that bait different than we do. This is all he uses. ;) When I see him I

will try to get him on BR to tell you some of the stuff he told me.

That be cool  8-)

It was the first top water bait I bought after I started fishing for Bass, many Moons ago and it is still my favorite (well, a toss up between it and the Dalton Special). You can twitch it and pause or any variation of that. There have even been days when the fish wanted it on just a straight pull (with the reel) just fast enough to keep the props turning. I've used different sizes and colors. One of the all time greats...

I remember when I was a kid, my next door neighbor would take the metal lip from a Jitterbug and put it on a Dalton Special.  He and his friends called it a Walkie Talkie.  Seems like I remember Dalton making a lure like that called a Dalton Twist.

That Dalton Special I caught a lot of bass on.Haven't heard a lot about it in many years.

I got it at a yard sale a long time ago and Love it. IMHO it swings wider and farther than other walking baits. I wouldn't mind trying that with the lip of a jitterbug except I don't know if they are still being made. Pluse that would kill the walking action and don't know what you would be left with ;D...

Have you ever seen a Ugly Albert. I have four of them. Used the Black at

the Stick Marsh in Florida and finely had to put it up to keep from draining

the lake. ;D
