I can get St. Croix Triumphs right now for $50 a piece.  Are they good rods?  If so, I'm going to buy them up.    A local dealer has them for $50 in any size, and he is making way for new.

Not a good rod for a serious bass fisherman. I bought one at Dick's because I had gift cards piling up. All I can say is that my son is 14months old...and it will be his in a few years. Good enough for him to mess around with.

I'd save your money.  I have seen the Truimphs as low as $40.  

I had one for about a month.  I thougth it was OK.  But once I put up against some all day fishing, this rod should have been called the Hoover  .

I am a big fan of St. Croix rods. This series is an embarassment for the company.

I have owned 2 St Croix rods. 1 Premier, 1 Triumph. I still own the Triumph, it is every bit as good as the Premier but for less money, and I have no intention of replacing it. I have inspected/handled the Triumphs at no less than 6 different stores, probably over 50 rods. I have not seen ONE that is an "embarassment" to St Croix. Is it the most sensitive rod? No. Is it the lightest? No. Is it a good $70 rod? Yes.........I feel it is a better buy than the over priced premier. It has the same guides as the premier, same blank, and same warranty, only reason it's cheaper is because it's made in china.

Just curious RW.............why do you feel that rod is an embarrassment to St Croix? Have you fished with one to justify that condemnation? Is it because it's not US made? Neither are your beloved Shimano reels. Have you seen hordes of them built shoddy?

The rod has had VERY poor reviews on this and several other Forums. My partner bought four for his guide work. YES, I have fished them and they SUCK! More importantly, after just a few outings with my buddy's clients, they ALL fell apart. This was THE WORST made rod I have EVER fished with...Did I mention E-V-E-R? NOTHING about this line of rods should be associated with the St. Croix brand name.

Oh! and BTW,

I AM a St. Croix snob, I own 4. I am embarassed that the company would allow ANYONE to fish with the EXCEPTIONALLY poor quality that the Triumph represents (as you suggested, pure CRAP!). If that were my first St. Croix, it would be my last.

Yea its not even worth the 50$$ sale. The only reason why it cost over 50$$ is because its a st. croix. A BPS extreme on sale for 60 would be a better deal.

While they're supposed to be the same as the Premier, but made overseas instead of here in the USA, the feel of the Triumph is a bit different. They feel more noodle-rodish if you will. We sell quite a few of them where I work, and I haven't seen any fall apart or come back for defects, but the feel of them just tells me to stay away. People still buy them because they're cheap, but I recommend the Premier and up for anyone even halfway serious about fishing.

I have had a better experience with the Triumph than the Premier! However neither of them stand up to the Avids and above. The Fenwicks are a way better rod in the Premier pricing point, in my opinion
