Shimano Calcutta

Featured Replies

I am new to this site and must say that i really enjoy all the great input and opinions from the members. I have always wanted a legendary Shimano Calcutta and think i am going to pull the trigger on one in hte near future. I have been looking at the cte100 and cte200. What techniques do the Calcutta work best for? Anyone with any experience with the Calcutta TE, your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome aboard!

I own two CTE200GT (5.0:1). This reel is best suited for fishing jigs, soft plastics, deep diving crankbaits, small swimbaits (Mattlures Baby Bass, 1.3 oz.) and live bait for BIG fish (stripers). The reel is relatively small, but EXTREMELY powerful, almost indestructable and smooth. With proper maintenance, you will fish this reel the rest of your life.

I have an older Calcutta 251 and it is a tank.  I use it for soft plastic (senkos and ikas) and crackbaits.  I thought it would be hard to use at first since you have to take the spool out to get to the breaking system (I think this is only on the old style reels) but that was not the case.  This reel actually turned out to be one of the easiest to cast.  I plan fishing this reel forever  :).

Imagine you are going to war, you are going to drive the most advanced tank in the history of warfare, kinda like an Abrams tank but, and here 's the catch, the Abrams you are going to drive has cruise control, the finest leather upholstery, Infinity sound system, all the goodies you expect from a luxury car.

Well, that 's exactly how a Calcutta TE is.

My personal preference is Calcutta 100A; plain, simple, no non-sense, solid as an anvil.

This is the only reels I use for every technique know to man for both fresh & saltwater  :)

Keep in mind this is coming from a Daiwa guy, the Calcutta would be the one Shimano Baitcaster I would own. I honestly think this reel would survive a 100 foot drop off of a cliff. You never know, maybe hell will freeze over some day. ::)

Great analogy Raul!!!
