new reel time....

Featured Replies

I was fortunate enough to snag a St Croix Avid AC70MHF for fishing jigs and worms and now i need to get a new reel for it. anyone have any suggestions on a good reel for under or around $100?

Abu Garcia Revo S

Shimano Citca

just a couple of suggestions....

You can pick up a ABU Revo S for that price. I bought one last spring.  It's been a great reel, very smooth and dependable. Gonna be tough to decide though there are so many good reels to choose from.   GOOD LUCK ;)

Citica 100DSV if you have smaller hands, or Citica 200 if you have bigger hands.

Both can be had for $100. By far best deal for $100.

Pflueger Trion NSLP  99 bucks! 8-)

Dude, the speed of the worm or jig is determined on how many times you hop the bait in a period of time, in other words, it 's dones with the rod but reeling in the slack line to maintain contact with your bait after every hop is something that 's done with the reel, for jigs & worms get the fastest reel you can.

hmm.... in that case i'm definately leaning towards the revo sc

Revo, hands down. They are great and like Raul said think about what you do when you are fishing a worm or jig. More about working the bait then reeling it in.

gotta go with the citica dawg! 6.2:1 gear ratio = good for worming/jigging....thats what i use mine for  :;)

citica (any model) $100 free shipping at www.deloscustomtackleshack.com

how come cabelas and bass pro shops carry the citica at 119?

  • Super User

cuz they suck:)

no but seriously, 119.99 is the MSRP but delos carries them for cheaper AND free shipping. if you ever consider picking a reel up, check delos first cuz they are good w/ prices and shipping (anything over 75 gets free shipping.)

Like Raul said the reel for fishing a worm or jig is only for slack line in between hops/shakes/jiggles/jerks and fast is best .You use your rod to work jigs and worms not ur reel

i prefer not to buy online because i like playing with it before i buy it... must be the little kid in me...

The $80ish to $180ish reel segment is the most competitive segment. It really comes down to a brand preference or preference of feel. You will basically be getting about the same quality per dollar in that price range in most brands. Search the internet. Most of the time people will suggest a reel in that price range becouse they are happy with it, or they are loyal to that brand. Very rarely do you find a post about NOT buying a certain reel in that price range. As alway's there are a few exceptions, but not many.

If you prefer to support your local mom and pop store, then I would suggest going to them and spending some time playing with the reels, then pick one out and buy it. If you prefer to bargain shop, then I would suggest that you do the above, but stop short of buying it. Then go online and find the best deal and buy it.
