St Croix Avid AS68MXF - what baits?

Featured Replies

I just received a St Croix Avid AS68MXF from Reed's. What baits do you fish with yours?

Shakey heads, Drop shotting.

xf action is not good for any trebels...

xf action is good for plastics, jigs, shakey head, dropshot, maybe spinnerbait, frogs, pretty much any single hook bait where alot of backbone is needed.

yeah but it's medium action....spinnerbaits and frogs i wouldn't use this for.

Would be perfect for senkos, small jigs or shakey head.

RW loves this rod,so i expect him to chime in soon.

yeah thats true. small spinnerbaits (under 1/2oz) should still be ok though....i use my MF on spinner baits just fine. but yeah frogs would be a bad choice on a medium power rod...

I have this rod and it is an awesome rod.  I use it for softplastic (Ikas, Senkos, and Lizards) and some inline spinnerbaits.  I would not use this rod for your regular spinnerbaits or crankbaits, the tip is way to fast.  If you're looking for a technique specific softplastic rod, this is the one.

The rod is Medium Power, not Medium (Moderate) Action. Although you could use it for anything, the rod is designed for soft plastics and jigs or more broadly, single hook lures.

Like spinnerbaits.  ;)
