OK - I have tried several spinning reels on the market from several makers and have been disappointed in overall performance and durability. Do I have to spend $500 to get a decent reel that doesn't feel like a coffee grinder after a season? Or one that does not twists the living hell out of my line? Please give examples of positive reel experiences in the $60- $150 range. Thanks in advance......

$100-$150= the Shimano Stradic...2nd choice would be the Quantum cabo.  I personally won't consider anything else unless you want to spend $300 plus.  I have 2 Stradics and am very pleased with them.

Best spinning reel I've used to date is the Abu Garcia 800 series.  This is a relatively new model.  It's built like a tank.  It's all aluminum (body, side plate, rotor, bail arms).   The main shaft is stainless steel with a very slick coating.  The shaft has two stacked ball bearings that the spool sits on.  These eliminate spool wobble under drag load.  The reel has a black crinkle finish that is rock hard.  One of mine has been used pretty hard for stripers and the finish is like new.   The bail is extra-heavy duty - very thick.  And the reel is very smooth.  Depending on the size, they run up to about $120.

I love this reel.  as far as coffee grinding in your reels they may need to be cleaned and lubed. I clean and lube mine once after the season ends and once in the middle of the season

Pflueger President at 60 bucks, you can get 2! I have used them for a long time and many hourd and trips WITH NO ISSUES 8-)

I think the "Best Value" in the Shimano line-up is the Stradic. If you want to save some money, buy the current Stradic 2500FH for around $80. However, if it was me, I would step up and buy the new Stradic 2500FI which incorporates some of the features found in the Stella.

Even though I do not use them that Stradic Rell RW is telling you about  is also a fine product.

I just bought 2 Daiwa Exceler spinning reels and love them.  I got them at Tackle Warehouse for $59.00 each and free shipping.  They were at my house 2 days after I ordered them

I would have to agree with Chad. I love my sol. It's smooth and dependable.

A Pflueger Supreme 8035 is an amazing deal. 80 bucks for a spinning reel that weighs 8.8 ozs and is incredibly smooth and nice to hold. You would not be dissapointed in it.

fished a daiwa exceler for a season and was very impressed for the $60 it cost . just picked up a tierra but won't be able to fish until spring . read alot of good coments about the tierra on this site and rewiews.  the sol does also come in a spinning reel

There have been a lot of great suggestions for what reel to by. But you said that you wan't a spinning reel that doesn't cause line twist. Well that ain't gonna happen. Spinning reels cause line twist due to their design. So cause it faster than others but you are going to get it eventually. If you hate line twist then go with a baitcaster.

I would go with the Shimano Stradic 2500 or a Quantuam Pti-a 20.  Both are great reels but line twist will never totally go away with a spinning reel.  If you are only going to a spinning reel, you might give some YoZuri Ultra Soft a try.  It will help some.

Here is a recent thread on the New Stradic FI. Like RW said, there are components in the Stradic that are used in the Stella. The new Stradic uses a similar Paladin gear system which decreases line twist. You can read the new Stradic enhancements here:
