Need advice for a friend

Featured Replies

I have a buddy that's never used a BC and since he wants a left hand retrieve reel, I can't give him one.  His budget is $75 which needs to include tax or shipping.  Seriously, that's the top dollar, I tried to talk it up but that isn't an option.

So which BC reels, under $75, should I be steering him towards?  I looked at a few that seemed ok but have no experience with any of them.

looked at the Daiwa Exceler 100HL and it actually seemed too nice for $65.  There were a couple quantum and pflueger options in there as well.

Help?

The Daiwa Procaster 6+1 is being clearanced everywhere and it 's one heck of a reel. Besides, it 's not new but die hard proven, got a buddy that has 4 and has beaten the crap out of them for the past 3 or 4 years without any problems.

Well, since he is your friend, you might say,

"Since God gave you two hands, why not learn to use them both?"

Here's another deal, but it's "correct-handed", too!   ::)

You can go on ebay and find all kinds of deals at that price, but may i suggest a older daiwa advantage on sale.

I'd go with Raul's suggestion.

Or you can go to ebay and get one for around that price helping him get it if he doesn't have a computer and ebay account.

We started off that way, I put one of the "old faithful" black 4600 CI's on a rod and gave him a 2 minute tutorial on baitcasting.  He has good instincts and was backlash free within about 5 minutes. (or the reel was dialed in perfectly  :) )

The reeling in with his right hand was entertaining enough that even I think he needs to go ahead and get a LH ret. reel.  ...lol  No sense in having to switch later when you can start off without switching hands to cast and retrieve.

Go to delo's website they have citicas left hand retrieve for $100 free shipping then you send in the rebate for $30 and it is a $70 deal.

The BPS Extreme reels are on sale right now and probably have the most options for that price range.

They offer a cranking (5.4:1), regular (6.4:1) and a high speed (7.1:1) all in both right and left hand models.

I know recently you have sworn off BPS products, but these are said to be bullet proof for the most part.

I think the Cabela's Prodigy is a good buy right now at $65.  I do know you don't care to deal with them anymore, but if you could get one in your hands I think you'd agree.

I bought one for a gift, liked it so much I stopped and bought myself one tonight.  I think it's a great bargain.  They had plenty of leftys on the shelf but there was only one more righty there when I left.  I also bought one of the Prodigy 1500A spinning reels for the same price.
