I am actually thinking about buying a Shimano reel.

Featured Replies

I am asking for a recommendation on a Shimano spinning reel. I have a gift card to Gander Mountain, and would like to get a new spinning rod and reel. I am getting a St.Croix Premier 7' M rod and would like a good(not top o'line) Shimano reel to go on it. I am looking at the Sedona,Symetre, and Sahara reels, but would like adviceon these and others. My max price is $90. Roadwarrior I need your help :), I want to see what this Shimano stuff is really about. Who knows I may sell all my AG's and get new Shimanos, maybe even a Curado.

For under $90 dollars:

Great reel- Symtre $79.99

Good Reel- Sahara $59.99

Not sure about the Sedona, I think I might try one. I have both of the other two. I have two Symtre 4000's, one that is 5 years old and been used in saltwate extinsely, no problems at all. As a matter o fact it probably would be in better shape if I was not so ruff on my stuff.

Hope this helps

FWIW, the Symetre is regarded as a real good "value" in the Shimano line. I think you'll find quite a few people will post suggesting that reel.

Have the Symetre 2500 myself. At $80 is the best quality to price IMHO...

You should be able to find last years model of the Stradic for that much if you look around. Awesome reel for the money. Dont know of anyone who has one that has bad to thing to say about it. Otherwise alot of people say the symetre is pretty close to the stradic so that would be your second choice

If you can find the Stradic 2500FH for $80, that would be my choice.

However, many members of the Possee PREFER the Symetre.

I'm sure you will like either reel.

The Symetre 2500, as others have suggested, would be a great reel.  For a couple of more bucks you might look at the new Saros if they have them in stock.

Thanks for all of the advice and opinions, I just got back from Gander Mountain with my new Symetre 2500RI and Premier rod. I played with the new Stradics, even looked over at the Diawas and Pfleugers, but the Symetre won out. I am very pleased with the reel and rod. I never thought I would purchase anything other than Abu Garcia. I also checked out the Curados, but Abu still holds me on my baitcasters. I am hoping to get out in the next couple of days to try it out. This morning it was around 20 degrees outside and my line was freezing stiff and the rod guides were full of ice. After about 2 hours, I figured out that I could not feel my fingers  ::)and it was time to go get warm. Again thanks to everyone for the help in this reel selection.

believe me, your gonna love that reel, i love mine, its a GREAT reel for 80$
