What is considered good casting distance for a spinning reel,,say 2500 size,8# line, 3/8 oz lure on a 7 foot rod. How about a casting reel,7 foot rod, any decent reel,and 14# line,5/8 oz lure? This would be with normal casting effort.

25-30 yards is a normal casting distance.

It really is hard to tell, or 'judge' how far you are casting.  As long as you feel you are getting a good cast you should be good.  Too long of a cast can result in botched hooksets as anyway.

Yeah probably around 30 yards but it depends on factors like wind, and if their is any accuracy needed.

Actually any target distance that you can make accurately, and still make good solid hooksets (maybe 25-30yds)... IMPO to long of a cast does result in a lack of accuracy, and a lot of missed hook sets.

My point is quit chasing noises half a pond away.....

Muddy's line is funny, but still the truth. I never cast any farther than the stump, rock, bush, drop-off or dock where I think the fish live. LOL
