I am looking at adding this rod to the arsenal.  I was originally going to wait to build this rod myself, but I am at least a year away until I can start to dabble with rod building and I am getting impatient.  I NEED it THIS SEASON :-? :

About 85% of my jig fishing is done fishing deeper structure in fairly open water.

So what I am most concerned about is the castability of this rod.  Will it load up properly with a 3/8 oz jig and able to make fairly long casts?

The H rating is what concerns me a bit.  Is it safe to assume the 844 is more like a MH.  Think the 843 might be a better choice?

I have this exact rod.  I think you should be fine with a 3/8oz jig but a 1/2oz is where I think this rod excels the most.  

This is probably the most versitale rod I own.  I have yet to see a lure this this thing can't tackle.  It works great for moderate to heavy cover and it also has plenty of power to pull some big fish out of cover.

I would highly recommend it.

Fish tank is preachin the gospel! If you want to throw a 3/8 oz jig to the moon, just stick a decent reel on that MB844C and you will be amazed. It is my favorite rod, and I have a couple of GLXs. JMHO

The 844 will launch a 3/8oz jig just fine, and you will appreciate the heavy  power for setting the hook (especially in deep water).  The 844 is the first Loomis I purchased, and one of my favorites.  It is a supreme jig, c-rig, and plastics rod.  

I've had several 844's and completely agree with the above thoughts.  They have a delicate tip so you can cast and pitch some pretty light stuff with ease.

If you have trouble casting 3/8 jigs with the 844, your problem will be something other than the rod!

in my hands, the 844 handles almost any plastic well, even down to 1/4 oz...tho, as stated, its sweet spot is 3/8 and above....very good spinnerbait rod, as well.

have yet to find anyone who regretted buying the 844.

I have the 844C GLX and can't say enough good things about it.

I have this same exact rod, in fact I bought it right before thanksgiving last year when Cabelas had their big sale on rods.  I would not worry much about throwing lighter jigs with it, i have used my to cast weightless senkos and ikas and have not had any problems with it.  I have it paired with a new Curado 100 and I love it.  

It is a great rod.  It was my first loomis baitcasting rod.  It is quite versatile but I pick up one of my 843s when I go down to a 3/8 jig.  I only use 1/2 and larger on the 844.
