I wouldn't fish Iron Silk if someone paid me $20! This line is so poor, I think Berkley has discontinued the product, or at least I could not find it on their website.

Stay away from Iron Silk!

>;)

its like Iron, not Silk

I totally agree with Roadwarrior.

I've used Iron silk at some point, and it breaks easily, I mean the knot-strenght is really poor..

The castability was ok.... But I prefer to pitch close and bring the fish back to the boat without breaking the line  :;)

I wouldn't advise Iron Silk to any one..

Sorry to say, that Iron Silk was the single worst line I have ever tired THEIR COMMERICALS were SOOOO much better than the line :-/

ROFLMAO!!! ;Di gotta be the only guy who never had a problem with it!!!it never broke on me and held a palomar knot no problem. ;Di only stopped using it because it was opaque so i figured i might as well use a braid if i was going to use an opaque line.

Nope I still use it

I actually used an 06 spool and an 07 spool on 2 of my reels a month ago and went fishing last week and casted with no problems..

Even snagged a log which I dragged in

I use 10lb and 12lb test

I had better luck though using it on my 6'6 rod with fuji eyes then I have on other rods with different guides (eyes)

TRIED* "I have ever tired" hehe

It works great for fixing fence or roping cattle, although it may be a little stiff for roping cattle.  ;D

TIRED::: OH OH LONG MIKE IS GONNA BLAST ME FOR THAT ONE

I got a spool of 14 lb iron silk in the mail for renewing my bassmaster membership. I didnt even ask for one just sent in the money and registration form and they sent me the spool with my February mag.

Is it even worth using for one or two days and then scrapping, I dont want to waste it and just throw it away but i dont want to use horrible line. Should I use it?

Just send it my way if you don't want to use it...

If you have never used ironsilk, why listen to every one and go out and try it, especially that you got it for free

Though 14lb test meh I like to use there lighter lines which I never had a problem with

I haven't posted in months but can't keep keep quiet about this topic.

Do not EVER buy or if you have bought Iron Silk run, don't walk, it to the nearest garbage can.  It is the only line I've ever stripped off a reel just to be rid of it.  I'm WAY too cheap to not use a line until the last possible moment......except Iron Silk.

Let the retailer, no matter how admirable, wallow miserably in the un-bought inventory and let them demand a rebate from Berkely themselves.

JUNK,JUNK.JUNK,JUNK, You would have pay me to use it and then I still would't use it.

What if you were fishing a lure you didn't want to lose or actually caught a fish?

This is a line that should not be used by anyone, regardless of the cost.

i did this recently with 12lb pline floroclear...crap!

I use this stuff all the time: for backing only on most of my reels. I found some for $.50. :)

I picked up 20 1125 yard spools of eagle claw line for 6.50 a while back and use this for backing ;)

Yeah I'll send it your way if you pay for the shipping and maybe a little extra for my effort ;)

It's terrible.  It's on sale at Bass Pro for $1.99 in Oklahoma City.

There is a reason it is on sale for $2 a spool.

And that reason ain't because it's a loss leader.

Ain't worth the Strokes Burley , he already made up his mind.

You would think I was a representative of Berkley...

Wipes a tear away, you bash my thread why oh why

For those who USE it and DON'T have an issue then this thread is for YOU.

Settle down bud.

Nobody's "bashing" your thread. We are just sharing our opinions, which is how forums work. Most of us have been fishing for a while, and can recognize a bad line when we come across it. Berkley's Iron Silk happens to be one of thoose lines. All we are trying to do is save other fishermen the hassle and possibly loss of lures and fish due to Iron Silk.

We have used it. It works like CRAP. We are warning others no to make the same mistake that we did. Maybe you like it. That's COMPLETLY ok!!! Everybody has a right to their own opinions. Just don't take it personally because we don't like somehting that you love!!

;)

Come on ! We ain't bashing the thread. We're just voicing our opinions. I have personally used Iron Silk in white, and low visibility green... and in different poun-test.

I understand your point that you were just sharing a bargain you found on that particular line.

I think your thread wasn't originally created to confront opinions on this item.... but I guess that's what a forum is all about.

I'm not bashing the guys that love Iron Silk. That's the way fishing works...for some a bait is gold, for others it's crap !

At least, those who thought about benefiting from the bargain have the pros and cons to make their own point of view.

IMHO, Iron silk would be good for people starting baitcasting.... If you know you're prone to do a lot of backlashes... and that seems to be a good cheap choice of line. :)

BTW GitRdone ..... a fan of Larry the cable guy ? ;)
