Revo S

Featured Replies

Mine just came into work today. Been playing with it a bit. Really really smooth. Smoother than my Citica 100 for sure. The real test will come when it's time to hit the water but I'm thinking this sucker is going to need some extra thumb control to keep it under wraps. ;) Really like the feel and profile of it. Deftinately going to throw it on my all purpose setup.

You shouldn't need anything more with this reel.  When you actually spool it up and set it up- set the brakes and tension knob, you should have no trouble controlling it.

All the new reels have incredible freespooling when brakes and tension are off/loose...

If I had know how well the S performed, I probably would have never bought any other more expensive Revos.  The S casts as well as any other Revo, and the brake seems much more effective.   Best value of all the Revos.

I'm retarded...........seriously.

Being new to baitcasters I was used to getting to the brakes with the Shimano lineup and the BPS lineup. With a dial or turnkey access.

I read the manual for the Revo but it didn't say how to open up the spot with the brakes. So I'm looking at that thumb rest on the left hand side and thought to myself....."Looks like that will come off.".

:;) :'( :-?

Well it did come off but so did the little tabs that kept that into place.  :'(

Only after than did I see the stupid screw on the opposite side that undid the sideplate.  >;) My own stupid fault.

So that thumb rest cover is not secure because one tab broke off that keeps it in place. Would running a small about of super glue around the edge of the cover keep it in place? Will it bond the plastic?

So so far my Revo experience is already tarnished by my stupidity and lack of thinking. Not to mention the brake system doesn't look as "sturdy" as the Citicas. Love the feel of it in my hands though. Definately love the paddles.

I'd call Abu Garcia's customer service number and tell them what happened.   They will probably send you a new sideplate, or trim piece, without charge.

As far as the brake durability goes, it's the same brake that's on other Abu reels.   It will hold up just fine.

I have two Abu Garcia reels and they both have the brake knobs to adjust the brakes and fine tune it. I really don't get the idea of making the new ones hard to get at or having to remove the side plate every time you want to fine tune it . Other reels do the same thing. It doesn't make any sense to me. Mike

While Abus customer service will probably take care of you, if you cannot get the issue resolved, send it to reelmech.  Chances are he can get the necessary parts and have him clean and lube it while it is there.  When it comes back, well as RW says it feels like something in your hands.

That reel feels better than any of my other higher end reels, hands down.   ;)

Thanks Dave!

OK, But why do they make it so you have to take the cover off to adjust it? That's what I'm asking.  :-? Mike

all reels with centrifical brakes u take the cover off .If they were exposed can u amagine the trash that would get in >you push um in or out depending on your lure weight and then adjust it with the tension knob outside to fine tune it .magnetic is fine tuning even more precise

How else would you move the collars?  :-?

I am not endorsing, just making a statement. You do not have to remove a sideplate with Quantum's ACS brakes, just a simple turn of the dial.

I bought 2 Revo S mid summer '07.  While I agree they are a good value.  I leaned over 2 weeks ago and the whole side plate feel into the lake.

Customer service told me if I sent it in it may be covered.  I needed it faster so I ordered and payed for the parts and shipping $42.00 or something.  Stuff shows up and try to make heads and tails and realized when I ordered the 3 set screws (looks to be listed as 1 part in the diagram on the website) they only sent 1 and there is a part I can't figure out where it goes.

Short story:  I am going to look up the reel mechanic.

Moral of the story:  watch that screw on the sideplate!!

Reel is nice though.

Happy Releasing,

H.G.

LMAO, I did the EXACT SAME THING the first day i got mine! I broke one of the tabs off so it wouldnt stay in place as well as before. I dont even notice it anymore.

Didn't even think about Reel Mech.

Before I read all these responses I ran a thin line of super glue around the border. Worked like a charm. So no more worries. Adjusted the brakes and now I'm ready to go.

The only thing that I do not like about the brake system is that the collars are very hard to snap from the "off" position to the "on" position. My citicas snap back and forth really easy. Are these collars plastic or will they hold up to the force it needs to snap them on and off.

Thank you and your explanation makes sense. I'm still in the learning process about how all these new reels Bait casting reels work. Nothing like the ones they had when I was a kid. I just assumed they they were all capable of manufacturing them with external adjustments for all the brakes. I'm betting that some day soon you will see that. Thanks again and sorry for all the questions, Mike
