I am trying to figure out which one is better I have a baitcaster that has 65lbs.  Braid on it right now.  Is braid good for cast fishing?  I know it is good for flippin.

Could fireline good for flippin I do know it is good for cast fishing.

What is the main difference

The reason I am asking this question is that I am going up to canada to go fishing for pike and other fish.  I dont really want to put fireline on if I dont have to.  So I was wondering if my 65lbs. braid would work for cast fishing.

Also what are the Pros and Cons for both

I have never caught a pike, but I believe they have teeth. Personally, I don't like to use braid when fishing for (or around) fish with teeth. Braid seems to fray and cut a lot faster than regular old mono or florocarbon.

BTW, I thought Fireline was braided line. :-/

No way I'd get mad over fishing line.  However, before you pull out the "DUH" card, I think you should probably do a little research on Fireline.  Like I posted earlier, I believe it is braided line.

The braid will work just fine and is probably a better choice for the fishing you're going to be doing than Fireline.  Musky fisherman use braid pretty much exclusively and heavier than 65lb. a lot of the time.  I would not make the switch.  I hope you get this answer before someone moves this thread.

if you are going to fish for northern pike it should be fine using braid b/c once northern do have teeth for clarafitcion you will have a 1' leader or so and would not need to hurry also with fishin pike

they put up a good fight and you would want a lot of line and have strong # test so once braid is smaller and takes up less room you can

put on more line

also I would use a nylon leader around 12" or so

Fireline is crap.  I had some and cut it off and threw it away 6 or 7 years ago and switched to Power Pro.

If you are going to Canada, I'd have one designated rig for pike.  Leave the braid you already have on and tie on either a 7-strand or pre-made fluoro leader in 60, 80, or 100 lbs (depending on what your fishing).

I started pike fishing in the 1960s and my methods have undergone a lot of transition since then.

Today I strictly use PowerPro braid with a 30-lb titanium wire leader (that'll hold the next world-record).
