All the hooplah is for real.  My first Megabass rod.

So I had an opportunity to grab one of the last Megabass Mephisto rods available for the US market.  Seems the rod is being discontinued.  The rod came in Friday, and let me tell you, it changes the way I look at rods.  I thought the Steez rods were tops, but now I think otherwise.  This thing is on another level.  I paired the rod with my equally exotic reel, the JDM Daiwa Zillion HLC.  The two were made for each other, right down to the identical purple trim.

I can't remember being this excited about a fishing rod since I don't know when.

A truly, truly beautiful combo. You are starting down an evil path my friend. Tread carefully. It starts with the occasional Evergreen, the newest Steez, and now the Mephisto. There is no hope for you now. :)

Abandon ye hope, all who enter...

Dang!!!!! I need a couple of Brawny towels to wipe the drool off the floor. 8-)

What does the bent part at the rear do? Is that somehow linked to comfort when fishing or fighting a fish?

The bent part rests against your forearm. The "slant bridge" is made out of titanium.

"Ahhhh, I see," said the blind mouse.

Thanks! It looks like they gave a heck of a lot of thought into that rod. Congrats on a beautiful acquisition. 8-)

And wait till Robert puts his hands on a Gan Craft rod. If you guys think them Megabass rods are just plain sick wait until you see a Gan Craft, they look like pure evil.

Gan Craft rods look impressive, but I've yet to read a review on their performance.

THe great thing about these Megabass rods is that they are less expensive than the Steez rods!

That's a nice looking setup! :)

Nice taste there Redline, give us a report on how it fishes.

I recently looked at one for my sol but after seeing the year warrenty and then the trouble in getting one i felt if it broke i'd have that much more trouble sending it back i ordered a loomis cr721 light baitcast rod instead, break it one at your door in two days. :)

When you jump into the bandwagon of imports the last thing you even bother into to considering is the warranty, or like in my case, when there were no authorized dealers in the country it came with the territory, to me all rods were imports. Even now, only Shimano, GLoomis and Kistler have authorized dealers, if I purchase a StCroix I 'm on my own.
