Gamma Copolymer

Why is Mr. Yo-Zuri asking a question about Gamma?

Well, I'm not totally stuck-in-the-mud and I do experiment

with different lines. I tried the Gamma Florocarbon #8 last

year and found it to be unfishable on spinning tackle, but I

hadn't really given the copolymer a fair test. The line I was

given was #10 which doesn't really match up for me with any

equipment. Although I have used about 100 yards as add-on,

the line is too thin for my taste. It seems to perform nicely

with very little, almost no memory and the green is nearly

invisible in stained water.

Anyhow, I am asking for reviews of #12 or maybe

higher. Specifically, how does the line actually test?

I could not find this information on the website.

Second, please comment on abrasion resistance.

Anything else you can note would be appreciated.

I have some 12 lb Gamma copolymer on one of my setups right now.  I am very happy with the line.  It will probably replace 12lb hybrid as my main casting line.  Break strength is 20lb per Gamma's website.

Thanks!

I will pick some up and give it a go.

I like the Gamma Copolymer.  Last year I used the 14lb on my Shimano Calais.  It cast better than most, the abbresion resistance was OK, knot strength was very good and handled quite well.  My only complaint is that it was kind of stretchy, almost like mono.  If I had not bought about 1000 yards of YoZuri dirt cheap at BPS last year, I would have purchased more this year.  I think Gamma has a deal if you buy 2 spools, you get on free.

I have using Gamma Copolymer for I guess two years now maybe a little longer.  While at first I didn't think I would like it.   It obviously has impressed me enough to keep on using it.    While I'm not trying to be a smart elic but you have to try it to really get an appreciation for it.   I hate there Fluro but love the copolymer.

http://www.gammafishing.com/catalog_request_download.cfm    Kinda hard to read but you will see the break strengths here.

Since you asked about 12+, I'll talk about 10#.  ;D

But my comment is not size-specific. I've used some on a Daiwa 2500 size reel and it does fine. Now I'm not the most observant guy around, but I haven't noticed anything that warrants its premium price compared to something like, say, Original Stren.

#8 flouro unfishable on spinning rod? what are you using ice fishing tackle  ;D j/k  i have used it is decent not unfishable but i rather use seagur. Now 12 lb test on a spinning rod now thats unfishable but i still manage.

what was happening with the #8 coils? i ahve that probelm with the 12 on spinning just start out throwing a heavier bait then switch to lighter stuff, i dont know the physics behind it but it works with pesky line

Been using 14# Gamma copoly for about 2 years on baitcasters with no problems.  Low memory and no abrasion problems I have seen.   I also use KVD Line & Lure which helps with the memory.

If you have an Academy sports near you they sell Gamma copolymer for $7.49.  Add the buy 2, get one free deal and the line is actually pretty cheap.  I only wish it came in 600 yard spools like Hybrid.

The fluorocarbon continually jumped off the spool even after cutting it down 3/8" below the lip of the spool. When casting, the line created wind knots in itself even though there was no wind! The line was spooled correctly then trolled, and thoroughly treated with KVD Lure & Line Conditioner. I was fishing a 6" Senko with a Shimano Stella 2500FB. I don't think my mistake experience was a result of operator error, equipment or fishing conditions.

I have had the opportunity to fish Sunline Defier.

It is outstanding line, but I'm not willing to pay $40

for 330 yards.

RW,

I tried the 12# co-polymer on BC gear and it worked fine. to be honest, I find it very similar to regular Yo-Zuri in stretch and memory. I don't have any hard data to back this up, but I think the break strength may be a little higher. Now, 6lb on spinning gear was a disaster. I took the same precautions-conditioned the line, spooled properly, trolled, etc and it was unfishable. Kept looping off the reel and the memory was horrible.

Supposedly lasts longer than your average mono, also if you hunt on ebay you can get it for considerably less, :-)
