Featured Replies

I am looking to buy a new rod probally a 6'6" m/h rod.  I dont want to spend more then 150 and am open for suggestions on what you think is the best rod for the buck at this price range.  I am thinking of the carrot stick.  Any other suggestions?

I am a big G-Loomis fan but my advice is, if you can't afford an IMX, skip the GLs. They are overpriced for the quality. JMHO

x2...the gl's are okay but, at that price, the avid is the better stick.

No offense against BPS rods i have some extremes but you can really tell the difference between them and other high end rods.  They just arent nearly as sensative or light.  I use an extreme for my second rod setup i take out.  But this rod needs to be a good one as it will be on my revo stx and is my main setup.

did the bps route first...traded all four in for avids. ill never look back

I wish the avid came in a split grip handle model because i really like those.  I fished my buddies legend tournament and i really liked it a lot thats what has me wanting a higher end model and i felt like the split grip gave more sensativity and probally a little lighter.  I may just have to save up a little more and get the legend tournament but i just cant see myself paying $220 for a rod.

Powell makes a split grip close to  your price range that is a nice rod.

St. Croix Avid

8-)

Of those you listed, I would go with the Avid as well. With that being said, I think the new Avids have a retail price north of your stated $150 max....

any body ever used Kistler Magnesium TS

Out of my six G.Loomis rods, two are GL2 and I love them. I am one of the few that likes the GL2 and thinks they are worth the money. But, I got to fish the Powell 683C(6' 8" MH extra-fast) today. I have to say that rod gave my G.Loomis MBR783C IMX a serious run. For $170, I am going to look seriously at getting one. I fished it with shaky jig/worm, t-rig, shallow cranks, spinnerbaits, and small swimbaits. The Powell casted and handled all of these well. A great all-purpose rod.

Not a rod listed has anything more to offer than the Carrot Stix LTX.

I just picked up a Kistler Magnesium 6'10" MgSJCB610 and I really like it for Texas rig and light jig work.  Some people don't think it's that sensitive and don't like the grip, but it fits my hand well and paired with my Pflueger Summit, it makes a very light combo.  I would recommend it from the short time I've had to use it.  I've used it on three trips thus far and I paid about $150 on eBay, including shipping.

Dont overlook the Shimano Crucial, 129.99$, i think it is strong competition among the others listed. The avid is 170$.

X2 on the Crucial. Best val;ue in the price range. I own five of them, and they are great.

Avid is really nice but a different price point.

Gotta give my vote for the Carrot Stix.  I have the 6'6" MH and love it, have it paired with a Revo STX and it will cast a mile and very sensitive.

Yes.  Not a bad stick, but the Avid is more sensitive in my opinion.

Avid of course, but the Shimano Crucial is also very nice.

Or you can save your money and get an IMX GLoomis.

Decisions, decisions.   ::)
