Warranty on BPS Johnny Morris rods?

Recommended Posts

Snapped the tip off my Morris signature series yesterday. I made a cast, and when the rod came to rest in the forward position, the tip had snapped off. >:) Now, I can't find the receipt, and have never had to exchange a rod with BPS. Am I in for a ride, or have they taken care of you all? I thought I had read here that they have a no questions asked policy on the BPS rods (Bionic Blade, Extreme, Morris etc). Pretty bummed as this is one of the nicest rods I've fished. Plenty of power to bring in that 7.5 back in April.

I have taken some stuff back there without receipts and have had no problems. They will usually just give you the same model for that year that they have in stock. My friend just took back a Rick Clunn BPS reel that was at least 3 years old and they just gave him a new one and he didn't have a receipt. I would also assume that it depends on the people that work at your BPS and the type of mood they are in that day.

If it's a current model, just take it back.  It's a BPS brand, so no doubt you bought it at BPS.   I bet they'll exchange it, no questions asked.

They will take back just about any BPS product. Its one of the reasons I like buying stuff from them. I rarely need to replace anything but if i do, they have always come through for me.

BTW...Sorry about the rod. That sucks!

I snapped a BPS extreme rod last fall all I did was bring it in and they gave me the option of exchanging for another rod or putting the amount on a gift card.  So if you have plenty of rods or wish to upgrade to another rod that they have see if they'll let you choose the giftcard option

technically it's a 1 year warranty.if you go to the store instead of shipping it they usually give you a new rod.i think they just don't want a scene in the store.

Good point...and don't call first. It's easy to tell a guy no over the phone. It's a lot harder to turn away a guy who's standing at the service desk holding a broken rod.

Don't worry about it.  Take it back.  Those people are fantastic.

I lost a lens to one of my black lights.  I called and asked if I could get another lens.  They said bring the light in and we will see what we can do.

I took the light in and they gave me another one.

A couple of weeks ago a guy exchanged a fly rod and reel at the Springfield, MO store that had burned in his house.

I too took one of these rods (7' M Casting) back.  The reel seet started to make a creeking sound under a heavy load but worse the guides started to come out of the wraps.  I repaired 3 but when the 4th came out while I was out fishing, I decided to take it back.  I had this rod for just about a year.

When I got to the store, they had one on the rack but it to had 1 guide that was loose and on the way out.   So I decided to exchange it for something else.  Problem was I did not have my reciept and I payed $159 for it.  All they would do is give me a credit for the "90 day low price" which I think was $109.  At the current time the price was marked $159.   They were also able to look up what I payed for it on my credit card and on my bonus points but $109 was all I could get.  I left there mad but I did come home with a lighter wallet and a Loomis crankbait rod which has been by far a better rod.

BPS has a 1 year warranty on their rods. They can tell the age of the rod by looking at them, no receipt is necessary, but always better to have. If you look on the rod blank by the letters that describe the rod, Extreme, Johnny Morris etc, somewhere near it you will see a letter and number, for example K5. This means the rod was manufactured in Nov 2005. C6 would mean manufactured in March 2006. These rods do not sit on the shelves very long so they have a pretty good idea when you bought it. Return policy is pretty liberal so you should not have a problem.............Al
