Get you some Trilene Big Game and see how you like it. I switched many years ago and like it a lot. Use the green instead of the clear.

I like big game but not on my spinning reels. I used it for years...

I've recently been given a spool of Trilene XL 9lbs at 0.22mm diameter, least that's what it says on the label. I was sure the 0.22mm was 6lbs breaking strain but this clearly says 9lbs. Oh.. and it breaks at 6lbs. Anyone else found this?

Don't use mono anymore except on ultralight gear, but when I do Trilene XL is my choice. It seems accurate on breaking strength to me, even my older spools. Steve Zodiacperhaps you simply have an old/poorly stored/bad spool.

Turn the box upside down and the 9 becomes a 6!

That Berkley website lists 0.22mm as 6lbs but this, a new spool of 0.22mm has 9lbs on the label is my question.

I've used XL for 30 years for everything from trout to bass, carp, pike, panfish etc. It has always done a respectable job and held knots before I knew what good knots were. I know this is an old thread, just wanted to add my two cents worth.

As far as Maxima goes, I much prefer XL.

Xl works great from 4-8lb test for me, exclusively on spinning rods.

15 years later, yes I still use XL. 8 and 10lb, but have used every size from 4-12. I don’t think there is a more user friendly line.

Before I was pro staff with bass pro, my favorite mono line of all time was Trilene Tournament Strength in photochromic.  Came in a gold box and was the best Senko line on the market.  Highly visible above water, invisible under water and strong as piano wire while still casting like dream.  It got discontinued.  Once I went with Bass Pro I starting using the Excel mono.  It’s hit or miss.  Some good spools, some not so good.
