thats what i did.

Out of the two you listed I would get the Sahara, but if you got the extra $20 get the Symmetre.

I haven't fished any of them but have held them in stores and the Symmetre is a really nice reel.

I would get the Sahara.

The Spirex has the Quickfire 1 hand cast control on the bail like my Solstice and Syncopate. They are nice to have but become loose after a time. If you are looking for a reel that is going to last awhile stay away from anything with a Quickfire it will be the first thing that goes on the reel.

I will assume you don 't have the extra $20 to purchase a Symetre, from those two the Sahara without a doubt.

just to complicate matters, you should know that shimano is releasing the new symetres and spirexes later this month (AFAIK, the sahara was not updated). see the new features at the shimano website.

personally, i really like the quickfire trigger (which i had on my old solstice)...and it made casting much easier for my wife and kids. my current spinning reels (daiwas) don't have a similar feature and my wife grumbles about it  ;)

Listen to everyone when they say Shimano Symetre, i wouldn't trade mine for any other spinning reel in the sub 100$ range. If the Symetre isn't in your budget then i would go with the Sahara. I have owned both and the Spirex was to heavy imo.

Myself, having owned a Sedona, I wouldn't get either one.  Don't care for them.  The Sahara is not that much different from the Sedona, I think just one more bearing is all.

But you should know that the Spirex does NOT have an instant anti reverse.  It only has the one stopping point anti reverse at top dead center, in the position where you would grasp the line to make another cast.  I wouldn't own a reel that didn't at least have the ratcheting anti reverse where it stopped at several points in the rotation.  All of the reels I own now have the roller bearing anti reverse which is just dead stop anywhere you stop cranking at.  That's an instant hook set when you pull back that way.  The anti reverse the Spirex has will allow the bail to rotate backwards a very long way before setting the hook.  Some may not mind this but I would not be able to stand it.

I'm thinking about the Symtre. It sounds like it's pretty good. I can afford it, I'd just like to save the money if I can. If I don't get the Symtre, the Sahara is looking pretty good!

Does the $20 make that much of a difference??

Thank's for the input!!!

Which model should I get? The 6.9 oz or the 13.3 oz? I'm leaning towards the lighter one............I wish they had more of a selection :-/

Thank's again!

The 2500's are ideal for most bass fishing applications IMO.  I have 2500 Stradic that I love.

The Symetres are 69.99 at Cabelas right now.

The Symetre has an aluminum frame. The Sahara doesn't. And the Symetre "may" have more bearings. I don't know about that, didn't check. But either way, the extra $20 for the aluminum frame would be worth it. I think anyway.

EDIT--I just saw that the Saraha DOES have an aluminum frame.  Sorry for any mixups this caused.  I should have checked instead of relying on memory only.  Now I'm wishing I'd have paid an extra $10 to have stepped up from the Sedona to the Sahara.  I didn't like the Sedona at all after a while of using it.  Something about it's operation, just didn't like the way it worked.
