Bass Pro Shop Broken Rod

Featured Replies

Have any of you returned broken fishing rods to BPS? I have two that I bought both within the last six months that I need to return. One of the rod tips broke on one of them last night, the other one has a chunk of cork that has fallen off the handle. I have receipts and hope I will not have any problems returning them.

These ar BPS Tourney Special (IM7) rods.

You won't have any problem.

Thanks Kent, I was hoping that would be the case.

They are great, especially with their own brands. I had an eye guide pop out on a JM Signature Rod. I forgot the reciept at home but they exchanged anyway with a like in kind.

Cool, this makes me fell better, heck I might even buy another rod while I am up there since I have a new reel at home that I do not have a rod to put it on.

Yep! I think that's what they had in mind.

"Free" replacement along with everything

else you "need".

No Problem. I was fishing with Glenn and he was showing me how to get a spinnerbait off a log, by using the tip of my BPS Extreme rod. The tip insert came out, I took it back to BPS looking for a repair as it was my fault, I told them what happened. The next thing I knew the customer service guy went out into the store and came back with a free replacement of that same model rod.

I messed up the tip on an Extreme once.  I took it to Bass Pro without the receipt and the customer service person told me to go get another.  They put a piece of tape on the handle of the new one and I was good to go...awesome customer service.

I hear you Kent, BPS is like a giant toy store to me, I always have to buy something. Thanks to all for the feedback, it is good to know that I don't have to worry about replacements.

I've had to take two back. The first one was I wasn't satisfied with the action (only had it a week and didn't take the plastic off the cork), handed them the receipt and said no problem! The second one actually was broken. Same deal though, took it in with the receipt and I was good to go!

I returned a Johnny Morris baitcaster that blew up on Smith Mountain Lake and the clerk told me that I would do better with a Shimano Curado.

So I gave them the broken Johnny Morris and picked up a new Curado plus some other stuff with the credit balance.

No questions asked.  :)

P.S. Rondef, if all is in order, the new BPS south of Ashland is scheduled to open at the end of September so you can just ride down I-95 at 95 MPH in the bumper lane and do some good shopping.  ;D

Heading up in the morning myself..... :)

How did you manage to do that?

It's my buddy Rick's. He hooked into a nice 5 and the rod just blew apart. Still landed the fish after pulling it in by hand.  :)

I just got back from BPS, they took the two rods back no questions asked. I went looking for the replacements and they were out of the Tourney Special 7 foot medium heavy rods. I ended up upgrading to the Bionic Blade 7 foot medium heavy rods. When I mentioned that there were no replacement rods and asked if I could get a discount on the upgraded rods she told me I shouldn't have broken the other rods with a rude tone in her voice. Her bad attitude left me feeling kind of angry. She could have been polite and said sorry sir I can't do that but I guess she must have been in a bad mood due to working on a Friday night. Well I ended up dropping an extra $130 tonight, $60 on the two rods and then $35 on a small tacklebox for my canoe and then a new BPS hat for me and one for my grandson that is due to be born in September. I look forward to trying out the new rods this weekend when my son and I head to Mattawoman Creek and fish the grass mats and pads.

i think the guides on my bps crankin stick have started to get knicks, good thing i'm getting a zillion rod for christmas. ;D

maybe you'll get some snakehead rondef :)

I think their policy is the same for all of the rods they sell.

I had a bos extreme break and they gave me store credit, no questions asked.

About Loomis and Croix rods, my friend snapped his after a week of owning his.  He bought it from BPS and was told to claim the mfg warrenty, so I'm guessing it only extends to BPS rods or if you're just unsatisfied with the action or feel.

Hey grampa, is this your first?  Congradulations!  Been following your rod saga.  I hope your new ones served you well over the weekend with your son.

Yes this is my first grandson due in September.  The new rods are nice, I got to use them today and I like the action on them better than the old rods, they were worth the additional money to upgrade to them.

BPS is great about returns. A guy I know recently returned a 3 or 4 year old shimano reel without a recent. They gave him no problems.

Doesn't shimano have an over the counter warranty program?

BPS does not take back broken Loomis, St. Croix or Falcon rods due the manufacturer's policy, not BPS policy. There are signs posted in the customer service and fishing areas of every BPS I have been in that state this fact. They will exchange them or give a refund if they are unused and you have tags and receipts for the rods.
