Spinning reel or baitcaster ?

You are going to be hard pressed to get a good reel plus shipping for 50.00

Go online at cabelas and check out some of their reels (on sale).

Spinning i'm new so im basically going to be using spinner baits, I don't need anything great but im sure I can find something better than what i have now. I got a $32 rod/reel combo shakespear M 5'10 from walmart, so im thinking i can get something decent out there... no? (also want to use it for salt water)

Pflueger Trion size x6735. 40 bucks, and I have 2 I have used hard with no problem

Go to the same place you bought that combo from and pick up the Abu Garcia cardinal spinning combo, it costs 10 extra dollars but it is a nice combo.

Hey, I'm a friend of Foodang's and the guy who recommended him to use this site. I know him in real life, and he plans to do fluking/bassin and even trout with a single reel (Yes, I know this is difficult, but I also know it can be done). Im not sure on reel sizes when it comes to pflueger, and by reading the sizes available on cabelas they name the sizes as "4520GX, 4725GX, 4730GX, 4735GX, 4740GX" judging by the line capacity I'm thinkin the size 4735GX would be the best bet, no?

Also, you think saltwater will destroy it? Or if its washed with water after the trip there'd be no negative effect on the reel performance?

From Pfluegers own site; The Trions are reccomedned for fresh water only Check out our flea market, there is a Pflueger Supreme there, you may be able to get it at your price range, I have a few guys who use them in salt water . I use an Okuma in salt water

ALSO; YOU WILL GET A LOT OF SUGGESTIONS, as long as they come form PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY USE THE REEL, they all will be good suggestions. I would write the ones down that interest you thane go to a tackle shop and handle them to see the ones that you like, If you already have a rod , bring it with you and see how the reel feels on the rod.

I've got a virtualy new Gander Mountain GST series spinning reel. It is a GST40. This reel is a "virtual" clone of the the Pflueger Medalist which has a list price of $79

I think I have line on it; if not I will fill it before shipping. It also has an extra aluminum spool.

 I'd let it go for $30 + $8 shipping ( within reason in cont'l US )

I can give a couple of names from this sight as recomendations

I can take paypal or money order or possibly a check

you can e-mail me for pics or info

e-mail is  dad559@comcast.net

Good advice. The new ones are out so last year's model is on clearance just about everywhere. I just picked up a brand new Symetre 2500FI on ebay for less than $63 shipped.

Dick's Sporting Goods has Daiwa Capricorn XTC on sale for $50.  The 2500 size is a good all purpose size.  Excellent reel, I have two 2500's, and one 1500.

If you go to SW you can grab a abu spin combo for under $40 bucks that will introduce you into the world of bass fishing. If you get the baitcaster bug try the BPS megacast combo. Start with low end gear then work your way up depending on your addiction level, and wallet.

Good luck, hope I helped, and get your line wet.

I agree. The Symetre is the best bet if you plan on going anywhere near salt water with your reel. It has 4 Anti-rust bearings and its at Dick's right now for the clearance price of $49.99
