With my christmas bonus on the way I decided to treat myself to a nice high end baitcaster.  Up to the point my best bc is a new curado.  This reel is awesome, but I have the itch to get something better.  I am open to suggestions as I have never shopped in this price bracket    Right now I am looking at the Steez and the Core.  I like the Shimano stuff but am open to other brands.  Has anyone used these reels in saltwater?  I fish inshore saltwater quite a bit more.  Thanks

Round baitcast reel: Calcutta TE 100DC. Can be had new for around $530. An absolute gem.

Low Profile: Not really high but the Chronarch 50mg. There are other higher end reels out there but this one is my favorite low profile. On sale $181 at TW,

Looks like a good deal on the chronarch.  Is this reel as smooth as the steez?  I should have specified that I am only looking for low pro reels.  

If you fish inshore, you should stay away from the mg Steez and Core.  I think the new Chronarch ships next month, it has an aluminum frame that will stand up to the salt.

If you fish saltwater a lot I would not buy a reel with magnesium body. Even if they are built to resist salt water, eventually you may scratch your reel and it might give you trouble. Here in Brazil a lot of people had problems using the 50mg in saltwater.

What kind of bats are you casting? Fruit Bats? Louiville Sluggers? If we know what kind of bats we can help you better

Never magnesium in brackish or sale water.

Go with a Zillion if you want low profile.

Shimano Conquest, Japanese model or Daiwa Bay Casting Special, another JDM round reel.

Abu Garcia makes and Inshore Revo and the Revo Premier is also an outstanding reel for your situation.

I was always partial to easton bats but I am open to suggestions.  I am still trying to figure out what "sale water" is lol.

I have a Revo SX and STX and love them both. Smooth as butter (this technically makes no sense) and very reliable...never handled the Premier and I've always thought about getting one...just never pulled the trigger. Everyone that owns one really enjoys it, I feel like the lower bearing count may make the reel feel less smooth and I've read a lot of people say that the eye pops out in a lot of the reels...how true this is I have no idea, but I have not purchased one yet because of these claims.

Maybe a Chronarch D when it comes out?!

This is a very sore subject with me and a few others on here. My 1st Premier started making a horrible squeeching noise when casted. This started about a month after using it. I sent it back to Cabelas and they sent me a new one. The new did the same thing right out of the box. Many other people have the same problem but others don't. It seems to be a crap shoot with the Premiers.

The reel is very light, under 6 ounces, and fits in my hand pretty well.

I'm not too fond of the drag. It seems you have to hammer the star drag all the way down just to get the proper setting.  I'm not sure about the Inshore Revo model though.  I won't buy it because of the issues I had with the Premier.

I think ABU has a pretty good reel with the Premier but haven't worked out the bugs. For the money I'd get the Chronarch 50mg.

If your using the reel in saltwater then most definitely the Calcutta. I have 7 of them and they are the BEST, IMO.. I don't use my MG in salt but I do use my Curado without any problems. Just rinse well after each use and do proper maintenance.

Growing up I was also a fan of Easton bats.  I used them to play both Saltball & Bassball   ;D

Very light.  Not a really refined reel for the price point though.  The mag braking is the same as on the STX or SX.  It's Somewhat quirky and takes getting used to.  The handle is nothing more that the same ol handle Garcia has been putting on a lot of their reels for some time now.  

Unless a reel is advertised specifically for inshore usage, I would thoroughly flush most of the models mentioned here meticulously after any usage.  I've seen my share of Curado's absolutely destroyed by saltwater corrosion due to occasional inshore usage.
