Winter

Hello everybody!

What is your favorite lure in the beginning of winter?

I like gerkbaits, but I don't know how well they work in this time.

Lipless Crankbaits are my top producer this time of year. For the dead of winter I will switch to a jig or a leadhead fluke and work the creek channels and ditches here on Clark Hill.

One of my pb came from using a lipless crank this time of year.   I usauly use the winter time to practice using baits I normally don't use often.   Like a jig I never was very good with one but this year I'm going to use one and keep using it until I get decent at it.  Jerkbaits work well I you let them soak for a while. Or atleast they worked for me well.

My favorite bait anytime of the year is a jig.  However, my most productive bait as winter comes on is the 4" tube.  It produces lmb, smb, and spots better than anything else that I use.  I like jerks but most days they don't give me numbers.

Oldham's Lures Trailer Hitch Jig, 3/8 oz Black/Blue, Gene Larew Salty Hawg Craws in 6 with 1 ½ cut off the tail

Texas Rigged Gene Larew Salty Hawg Craws 6 Black Neon, ¼ oz Bullet Weight Black

Rat-L-Trap ½ oz Gold/Black Back/Orange Belly & Red Chrome

Stanley Wedge Spinner Bait ½ oz, White, Double Gold Willow Leaf

When it gets cold here in MD, I tend to cheat.  ;D  There are two warm water discharge areas I hit from time to time that keeps the cabin fever to a minimum.  I can use more active baits like cranks and floating jerkbaits. If the water isn't hard and I need my largemouth fix. I usually throw 4" tubes in various colors, depending on the water color.

my fav. search bait in winter is a simple 3 or 4 inch grub swam slowly. I also love to really saturate a good area with a drop shot/finesse worm.

What's THAT?  A Gerkin pickle on the end of a hook?   ;D

Just kidding!

I like to use Jigs with short trailers and lipless cranks in flashy colors.

Lipless: 1/2 oz. Strike King Red Eye Shad: Sexy Shad and Chrome/Blue Back

Jig: 1/4 oz. Terminator Pro Top Secret Jig: Black Blue w/ match Netbait Paca

Jerkbait: LC Pointer 78DD or small Husky Jerk

Thats pretty much what I will live off in the winter.

I catch alot with a jig, deep cranks, slowrollin a spinnerbait, and using a lift drop retrieve with a chatterbait.

4" finesse worm on a drop-shot rig, homemade 5/16oz finesse jig, and LC Pointer 100 jerkbait.

Those are my 3 top producing winter baits.

I like a 4in or 5in Senko early on.  As the weather gets colder I like lipless crankbaits like the Lucky Craft LV 500 or X-Calibars Xr-50.
