Hi All.

Long time lurker first time poster with a question.

I received a 6'2" Avid med power extra fast action baitcast rod as a gift.  Lure weigt range is 1/4 oz to 5/8 oz.  What applications would this rod be good for?  I've read a lot of the posts on the forums concerning rod powers and actions and honestly they leave me a bit confused.

I've been using a 6' med power fast action Avid for the past few years. I typically throw texas rigged worms or lizards with a 1/8 to 3/16 bullet weight or light to med jigs: 3/16 - 3/8.  Sometimes I throw and x rap or a jitterbug or popper and the occasional senko

I know I shouldn't use the extra fast rod for treble hook lures.  Do you think the extra fast would do well as a texas rig, jig, and unweighted soft plastic rod.  Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try the new rod yet.

Your rod is for soft plastics and light jigs. These days most guys fish

longer rods, 6 1/2' - 7', but yours will work fine.

i agree with roadwarrior. you can prob also use it for drop shot and shakey head jigs. the only thing i wouldnt use it for are crankbaits.

Your rod is for soft plastics and light jigs.

It would also make a fantastic close quarters spinnerbait and buzzbait rod.  And a short rod like that with a delicate tip make a kick butt dock pitching rod
