Spinning reel clean and lube walkthrough?

Featured Replies

Anyone know a good site where they illustrate how to do this? It is almost time to get out to the lake and I want my reels to be ready...

Each model has its own eccentricities, so no single walk through would apply.  I don't recommend breaking down a spinning reel without a schematic and someone experienced in this looking over your shoulder.  Find a reel repair place nearby, or contact the manufacturer to have it done professionally.

J Francho might know a little about this... ::D

I've been through a few nightmares.   Recently.  Don't ask.  They were Flooger related.  ;D

Well keep practicing on the Floogers...

When you get caught up, I want to have two Stella 2500FB and

one 1000FA serviced. However, I need them back before April

1st or I'll send them in after the BR Roadtrip. I don't think they

really "need" service, but I just feel better when I know they

are being maintained on a regular schedule.

One question:

I have a 2500 Sustain that doesn't have much calibration when

the drag is properly set, it's kinda like on or off. Does that sound

like dried out pads, something else or nothing I need to be concerned

with? I had it serviced a year or more ago, but I rarely (never) use

it and just notice the lack of "range" when I'm playing with it, not

fishing.

I usually check for "foreign matter" first, and see if a cleaning doesn't shape it up.  I once found a grilled cheese sandwich in one of mine, and it really inhibited the smoothness...

But, depending on how long its been, and if something got in there to prematurely wear them out, its an easy enough fix to replace with new pads.

Send me a pm :D

Why not just send them to Shimano?

I would just like to send a little biz to J Francho.

Here is a video released from ZPI'' Japan on doing general maintenance. The spinning reel portion is in the second half of the video.

Friction Zero is great but needs to be applied frequently.

nice video. looks like wd-40 to me

WD-40 is more of a solvent than a lubricant.  Not recommended for reel parts or shiny paint jobs.
