What line for all around bottom bait rod?

Featured Replies

I have one rod that I use for any of my  t-rig, c-rig, jig, etc fishing.  I use it anywhere from open water to thick vegetation/brush.  I currently have power pro but have been contemplating putting 20lb big game to help me in clearer water.  What do you suggest should I stick with the power pro or make the change?

Bassin,

First, what do the rod's specs allow regarding line test?

Second, if you are fishing in heavy cover or structure you need an abrasive resistant line, as you know, so select the one you feel the most confident.

I know guys who use Big Game and they love it.

As for me, I use Berkley XT but soaked with KVD's Lure and Line Conditioner when spooling and then sprayed onto the spool during the spooling process and while fishing.

I like the green colors.  If you use a clear line, you can see it better.

The fun of finding the right line is through experimentation. So start experimenting and let us know which lines you like and do not like.

It is feedback from everyone on the Forum that makes the Forum a wonderful exchange of ideas and opinions.  :)

Stick with the braid , it helps get through the vegetation.

For thick weeds I would go with Braid and for the open water I would go with Fluro. If you only have one rig, you could use braid for your main line and then tie on a Fluro leader when you need the abrasive resistance and/or when you think the fish can see the braid.

Wow RW, never thought you would of suggested Yo-Zuri. ::)

Sometimes clarity doesn't matter with braid.  I've used 65# Power Pro in weeds and crystal clear water with no objections from the fish.  I think the braid just blends in with the background vegetation, or the fish just doesn't care.  In clear open water, I'm more likely to use a FC leader, straight FC, or copoly in a moss green, since most of the year our water here is tinted greenish.

Vicious fluorocarbon 15 pound test for best all around performance!

Seems as if I have heard that somewhere before.... :)
