Are aesthetics important to you?

I don't see why it's a bad thing to match your gear. I wouldn't buy a bright green car with red interior or a red car with orange interior. Rods and reels are substantial investments so I don't think it's too much to ask that they look good.

I like to have my reels match my rods. Obviously the reel's abilities and strengths need to match the technique of the rod but yes, aesthetics do matter to me.

Burley and yet another dink in a picture together...  go figure! lol

An all to familiar site from what Jimzee has said.

Well said, exactly how I feel about it.

I would say yes, rod and reel should match for performance and for appeal.  And if it really matters that much, any rod you buy you can always either customize it yourself, have someone else do it, or purchase a blank and either do it yourself, or have someone else do it.  Possibilities are endless...........

If I'm spending good money I like what I buy to look good as well as work well.

Only if my wife is going to use it  ;D

I think looks=confidence=more fish. If you have a rod/reel combo that looks good to you, you will be more confident that the set-up is going to work.  Having said that beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder, what looks good to you may not look good to someone else and vice versa.

I wouldnt buy an ugly Bass boat nor would I buy a ugly rod and reel setup.....

Life's too short to fish with ugly equipment or ugly women.

Good one.  Looks play a minor role in my opinion.  If to reels were close I would choose the more attractive one.  However, I match rods and reels based on feel and not looks.

If you pick your women on looks alone you will have lots of trouble as well!

It can be poop brown with pink polka dots for all I care. Its fishing, not a fashion show. If it feels good and works properly thats all that matters.
