Spinning reels

Featured Replies

Reccomendations wanted for spinning reels, I have two 7 foot rods, medium and medium light. Planning on lake fishing with a canoe and a jon boat this spring, bass obviously being the main objective. Any advice would be welcome.

depending on your budget, id go with the following in 2500 size

shimano sahara, shimano saros, daiwa tierra, shimano stradic or daiwa fuego

X2

Daiwa's Exceler is also a great performer at <$70.

Consider the Pflueger Trion, President or Supreme.

I own the Trion and the Supreme, both outstanding reels.

Do a Google search for reviews, there's a lot of them out there, almost all positive.

Thanks, I will research all, thanks for the help.

Oh, what the heck, my list, in order of preference:

Abu Garcia Cardinal 502/503 ALBI

Shimano Sahara 2500

Daiwa Exceler 2500

And there you go. :)

I really like anything Quantum but Shimano's and Diawa's are not bad either.

I tried the daiwa tierra, it was nice but i think i had a defective one (it was smooth but when there was weight on the line ie: fish or lure it made clicking noises).  I then went with a shimano saros 3000, absolutely love it by the way. Dont know your price range but the saros has my vote hands down.

I really like Daiwa spinning reels. The Exceler is hard to beat for the price. Other then that get a Tierra or an Advantage.

Any Shimano from Sahara and up.

Cardinal 500, 700, 800

Pflueger president or supreme

I have to agree, the cardinals are pretty solid reels, I have a Pfluger Medalist now, I really like it, but it is pretty heavy, so I would have to recomend the Cardinal unless you really want a good forearm workout.

pflueger supreme is the best value for the $ !!!

My personal vote for best bang for the buck is the BPS Pro Qualifier.  Next would be the Pflueger President, and then the Shimano Symetre.

Yup. Both have been excellent for me.

Shimano Symetre or Saros in the 2500 size.

Later, :)

WOW! Thanks for the advice, it is greatly appreciated. Glad I joined the Forum.

Thanks again.

What size do you guys like for the Pflueger Supreme?

I prefer the 8030 for 6'6 rods....or lighter rods.....I have an 8030 on my Loomis SHR 821.

8030 on Rogue 6'6 M

I'd like to get the Loomis 7 4" Bronzeback, and for that rod I would go with 8035.

You don't need a big reel, and to me, the smaller reels feel better in use.

Thanks! I ended up getting the 8035 but if it turns out that it feels too big I'm sure I can exchange it.
