I am thinking about spooling my Daiwa Alphas with 20 lb braid and I would like to know your opinion about it. I am not sure if I will buy sufix or the new fireline. I may use it for some fish up to 6 pounds that fight harder than LMB. Will I have problems with line dig in?

suffix and power pros are both good braid. But berkley really stepped it up with the new fireline braid. unlike the original fireline thrash. its round and very smooth. it wont dig in your spool as other braid would do. I got it in tracer color, really easy to keep track of where my line is, I just put a flourocarbon leader for visibility issues.

20 lb may be a bit light. Keep in mind that 20 lb will be a diameter if about 4-6lb mono. 65lb is about 12-14 lb in diameter compared to mono. That is the beauty of braod higher test with a smaller diameter. 20lb is better suited for spinning, IMHO.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I have 20# Sufix on 2 of my spinning rods. I have 50# Sufix on one of my Flippin sticks and have not had any problems. 50 is as light as I would go on a baitcaster.

Thanks. My problem is that I really like small diameter lines. I was fishing my alphas with 10lb Yo-zuri hybrid and I felt I would like the 8 or 6 lb better. However if I am going to have headaches with de 20 lb braid I may buy a larger diameter.

I use 20lb PP on a Calcutta 51 and I think the new fireline will be even better, but I havent had any problems and I aslo use this set up for redfish out of a kayak. Just loosen the drag and work with the rod to put pressure on the fish.

I have 30# on both my Quantum and Prodigy and probably light as I would go and guess it would depend on where u are fishing it also. Some of the pros recommend nothing less than 50# if you are fishing heavy cover.

I used 20 Sufix and it did dig in once in a while I switched to 50 still catch fish and it don't dig in JMHO

Power pro doesn't dig in the way other braids do. I would go with the 30 pound test on a casting reel.

20# braid is will dig more than 30#. It isn't so much that 20# is light or weak. If it were weak, it wouldn't have the strength to break at 20 in a fish fight. However, because braid doesn't stretch, it would rather snap when whipped which I think pretty refer to as being light.

30# is what I would recommend for less line dig. Castibility of 8# equivalent diameter is still pretty good.

Sufix is the better of the two IMO, but like the others if this in going on a bait caster I would go at least 30#

30lb. power pro. Been using it for years and never had a problem. Pulled many of biggun's out of the heavy stuff with out any trouble.
