Line for top water?

Featured Replies

Mono for top water uses, unless you are throwing frogs in slop, then you are going to want a braid. but because mono floats you dont have to worry about diameter and can throw what ever # you want. you can read more at  .... http://www.another site/articles/fishing-line-guide/

I like 6 - 10 pound test mono for the lightest poppers, walkers, and prop baits. For topwaters 3/8 of an ounce or over, I like 12 - 14 pound mono, and buzzbaits I use 14. For frogs, minimum 30 pound test braid with a 20 pound clear mono leader.

For moving topwater baits like buzzbaits or a rage shad you can use anything really.  For twitching topwaters, or ones with a pause I'd choose mono.

I have always used mono for topwater, however this year I am going to try out Yo-zuri hybrid.

X2, trying out the Yo-Zuri Hybrid this year as well.

Later, ;)

I like Trilene Big Game for topwaters. #10 for poppers, walk the dog type baits, #15 for anything else

Which brands of mono line float? I'm interested in trying some. I just tested 8 different lines with some being a co-polymer and when the surface tension is broken, they all sank. Fluorocarbon does the same thing but sinks faster. Is this another myth like floating worms?

30# braid for all topwater lures in open water.

65# braid in vegetation.

Jebus Christ!

I use punny 10# braid.. call me a sucker for light tackle.. and light line.

I tend to agree. Unless I was fishing where I knew there was a chance at a bass over 10 lbs.. Fireline of this breaking strength will lift the tree stump out of the water!  ;)

90% of my open water topwaters are tossed on 12# mono - Trilene XT.

Mono for treble hook baits.

Flouro for everything else, including trick worms and frogs.

Braid for heavy cover.  ;)

Braid seems to kill the action of poppers, walkers, and prop baits. I only use braid with frogs.
