Round Baitcasting reels

Featured Replies

I use mine for swimbaits and bigger bait presentation. I was wondering if you have one what you use them for and the benifits of having a round reel vs. a low profile one.

I have two Shimano CTE200GT. These reels are relatively small,

but built like a tank! They are as smooth as any other Shimano at

higher pricing points. I have one mounted on a G. Loomis GLX

MBR844C which I use primarily for weighted soft plastics and jigs.

The other is saddled up with a Lamiglas SR705R for deep cranking.

I have four all abu garcias, three EXT Pros and 1 4600C3, I use mine for everything.  I recently sold most of my lp's as I switched to round reels.  The only LP's I have now are an Accurist for flipping and an 05series Extreme for the really light stuff.  I love the classic look, feel nostalgia of a round reel I guess.  Seems to me that you get more bang for the buck with a round reel as well.

I agree.I run Abu Garcias and I've tried to tear um up....You just can't.

I have over 50! From 1500C's all the way up to 6500C's,I love the way these reels work. They're easy to work on,and easy to upgrade.

I bought an Aub Garcia Ambassadeur 6500 CL3 many years ago and use it for heavy swim baits and deep diving crankbaits.

The reel is OK.  It serves its intended purpose.

the only round reel i own is a calcutta.. and its the only shimano i have ever truly liiked... i toss heavier swimbaits and a c- rig on it

X2 on the calcutta.  I recently got the 200b for something i could use for both bass fishing and redfish when I go over to the coast. It doesn't have the nice contour that my low profiles but still easily palmable.

My first baitcaster ever was an Abu 5000 round reel. I have since switched over to all low profile Revos. They are much more comfortable to palm and lighter as well.

No love for Quantum around here .  I have two old irons that I still use regularly for buzzbaits, deep cranks, and trolling cranks.

Have a Tour 300 that I still use.Been throwing this one for awhile, still find it quite comfy for it size.Like it for topwater prop baits, jitterbugs.

I have  these

Calcutta 200B

Calcutta 200TE x 2

Calcutta 200TE GT

Calcutta 200 x 2

Calcutta 100

Calcutta 400B

I use them for everything from cranking to jigs to worms and spinnerbaits. The only thing I probably wouldn't use em for is flippin/pitching.

i got an abu 5600 ext pro on a new okuma carbon c3 rod that i like to use for throwing anything into the nastiest slop i can find and pulling the fishies and 20 pounds of the lake grass/trees in with them
