New Shimano Core

Featured Replies

OK, I've seen the news getting out to a few places already, so I throw it on here...

The Core 50 AND 51 Magnesium will be available VERY soon.  $369.99 retail.

Not quite as cheap as the old 50Mg, but should make some people happy.

Got any specs or details?

The only problem is going to be waiting until Sept. or Oct. to get one.

I'm sure full details will be available in a day or two, but I here's a little more info...     5.5 oz; 85yds of 12lb mono; 7.0:1 ratio; 7 A-RB bearings; and lower profile than the CH50Mg was.

Sorry to post partial info.

I've heard some may be available next week.

Thanks for the info!

The only bad part is that it sounds very much like the existing core, minus like a 1/2 oz and plus about 3 bearings. :-/ I hope they realize that not all of us use braid or light line.

I'm still holding out hope for something light, with some line capacity.

if you get the new core, ill be more than happy to take your yumeya type 1 off your hands  ;)

If I were to get a new core, it would be an additional reel, not a replacement.  Sorry.  ...lol   But if the above mentioned info is true, I won't be buying a new core... unless of course the Yumeya spool fits it...  and then, if it's a 50, the spools probably won't interchange.

Got any specs or details?

-      Magnesium alloy ultra-light body (lightest in the world)

-      40mm height compact body

-      32mm dia., machined air-craft-aluminum spool

-      Over-sized gear offers silky cranking and long life

-      Mg: 80mm standard handle

-      Mg7: 84mm long handle

-      6 point SVS centrifugal brake system

I own a core and I have to say that its one of my favorite reels, I use mine mainly for throwing shallow cranks but i do switch it to river fish some smallies on occasion to.  Personally i cant wait!
