There are only so many countries in the world. Sooner or later as the third world countries catch up and their workers start demanding decent wages and conditions, then where will you get your pennies a day labor ? The Middle East ? NOT.

Hey guys, I have always been a pflueger fan untill I found today they are made in Korea

Do any of you know where all the brands are made? I searched google unsuccessfully

Pflueger - Korea

Shimano - Japan

Abu - Korea

Quantum - ?

Mitchell - ?

Wright & McGill - ?

To be honest, I'm looking for a great reel made in the USA

Does anyone know of any? I'm going to replace every last Pflueger, Shimano, Quantum, and Mitchell reel I own with a USA brand.

Thanks for the input

D

Fixed it for ya. :)

The Pfluegers I own, Supremes, Summits and Patriarchs are made in Korea, as are the Garcia's. It's possible some of their cheaper reels are made in China but if you're going to buy cheap equipment, you'll be hard pressed to find anything American made.

I have two Presidents - I dont really classify them as a "Cheap" reel, both of them I bought about 5 years ago and on the box is says "Made in China"

Thanks for letting me know about Abu and the other Pfluegers I had no idea that abu went to korea, I have the older Abus and they say "Made in Sweden" hard to believe they let the company go to korea, its sad, very sad :)

Why is it sad that Pure fishing moved most of the Garcia reel production to Korea from Sweden?

Yours is an issue with perception.  You perceive that because something is made there (sweden), it's of obvious quality which would be assuming something that isn't necessarily true.  I and many other 5000 series round reel users saw the decline in quality of the Garcia rounds in the 80's.  They were still made in Sweden but the internal parts were cheapened to keep the price point where it was back then.

It's all about a company striving to build a quality product.

From the engineering to the testing to the construction and QC and finally,  the consumer end and satisfying them along with recognizing problems in the field and fixing them as they come along.  While it would be great if more companies built reels here,  it's obvious that the SE Asian sphere is just set up better to mass produce quality reels.

It's really no different than the consumer electronics market.  There hasn't been anything made in this country in well over 20 years.

How can we as Americans sit here and say lets buy from commie countries???? and still say communism is bad??? ;D,like the one guy said as long as we get it cheap who cares about that 8 yr old that got whipped cause they screwed up .And muddy i disagree about America being as bad 80  yrs ago as the places we are talking about now <My grandad talked about the great depression but he nor any of my familey was beat for screwing up anything .The great depression was hard on their wallets but not there wellbeing and pride .Thing is also if you  was in a state that only had so much to offer you was still free to move to another state . Unlike a commie country 20 hr days 7 days a week if you QUIT and get caught you get shot .And nope America cant even control America ,how are we gonna stop communism in another country??? "people have to much faith in Politics and not enough faith in reality" :)

Part of our history , does involve beatings and murder for mistakes, it was called slavery, like it or not it is part of our history.

We were already a country.

Read about that fire I posted, about 6 year olds working the coal mines, before child labor laws and unions. Read about post slavery share cropping for both the white and black poor.

Read about the conditions that many rail road builders had to endure and The Company Store, and those who worked on the Panama Canal.

Read about the sweat shops of the 20's in the North East.

We have grown and workers have learned how to protect themselves. This is what makes us great, why we should lead the world and mentor, but not force the things we are best at.

This "Buy American" BS, is nothing more than union propaganda to subsidize higher wages. But that's only half the story, the other half is Corporate interests. Weak dollar, illegal immigrant workforce and high tariffs to retain a captive market.

Do you think union members or corporate fat cats feel your pain as they drain your wallet? The best product gets my buck, baby. Whether it's made in Aruba or Zimbabawe or any country in between.

You sleep well with your misguided loyalties and empty wallet.

Bingo!!!!

I refuse to spend my hard earned money on products of mediocre quality.  I want to get the best I can for my dollar.

I'd like to know who on here, when they buy a new car, demand to pay sticker price and don't go looking for the best deal.

I agree.  I'll bet those in the Middle East would be offended.

Just about all rods/reels under $100 are made in China, thats why the quality starts at that price(Citica reels, St Croix Priemere rods, etc.). China, a Communist country with no real environmental, labor, or quality control standards mostly makes junk, I say stay away from that stuff if it all possible both from a quality standpoint and in support of freedom for a billion people making $2 a day.

and that, my friend, is why I will only purchase items made in China unless it is absolutely necessary.

You can't avoid buying Chinese. Take your automobile. Everything from lightbulbs, windshield wiper motors, wiper blades, ignition modules, and wires are made in China. Ford alone buys some $3 billion worth of auto parts per year to put in their "Made in USA" vehicles. Honda, widely accepted by many as the most reliable brand of automobile, has plants in China turning out parts for their cars.

You just cannot get around it.

The notion that everything that comes out of China is junk is absurd. If you have an ideological aversion to China and avoid its products on that basis, that's one thing. But to assert they only produce junk is simply nonsense.

Sicilian Saying: Keep your friends close, your enemies closer

I will buy Made in USA if they make a good product. I will even pay a few dollars more. I see no problem supporting the home team.

It truly amazes me that if someone chooses to spend their dollars in a way that supports their countries workers that they are accused of being scammed by "union propaganda", supporting "corporate fat cats" and having (the most amazing of all) "misguided loyalties".

Very, very sad also.

Well, the truth is often difficult to handle but handle it you must.

Good for you DRhodes!

You see a problem in this country.

You're not trying to assign blame for this problem

You're not trying to explain how we got here.

You're not giving in to the hopelessness of it all.

You're just asking "What can I do to help?"...and then you're doing it.

If you were here I'd buy you an ice cold Heineken Corona Miller Budweiser...Sam Adams!
