Alright guys, being as it's been colder lately and I have NO social life, I wanted to work on sharpening my hooks. One problem- I don't really know how. I have a dremel with a sharpener and I also have a file that I bought from Bass Pro Shops a couple months ago that I haven't really used. Can anyone give me some advise? Some diagrams or even video would be awesome.

GATCO (Great American Tool Company) makes an outstanding hook hone with two sharpening grooves in it.  Or go to Lowe's to the section where they have pocket knives.  They have a sharpener there covered with diamond dust.  It's metal with a groove down the middle.  I've been using one and it's great.  Can't remember the name but it comes with a black nylon carrying pouch.

Once you get your sharpener, remember to sharpen by running the hook in the direction of the point.

I don't sharpen my hook.  I believe you can never get then as sharp as when new.   No more than hooks cost it is not worth it.

I only sharpen spinnerbait hooks- the rest get replaced.  I have a stone and a Berkley hook sharpener I use, with the stone being the one I use when I have the time to do it right, and reserve the Berkley sharpener for quick, on-the-water touch ups.

Thanks guys. The reason I asked is because I picked up ome cheapy spinnerbaits at Wal-Mart and then noticed that the hooks were as sharp as a pear.

Pretty much the same here. The only hooks I will sharpen are on S/b or other baits hooks cant be changed on

As a follow up to my post is whenevery I throw a hook of any kind away I take it to the grinder and grind the hook part off.  I don't want anyone  picking up a box or bag and getting a hook in the hand.  I have been hook befor and believe me it not any fun.
