Im spooling up a couple curado's and I have one on my new topwater rod.  My favorite are walking baits.  Occasionally I will find myself throwing a lc pointer but mainly sammy's, spooks and skitter walks.  What line do you  have on your topwater rod?  My first thought was monofilament just because mono floats as opposed to flourocarbon.  But is it that big of a deal?

I use 10-12# Trilene XL, and it works great for me.

Yeah you don't want to use a sinking line with a floating lure. Throws off the action.

I agree 100%. Even if the floro only throws off the action a tiny bit, bottom line is that the action is off. I think its a big deal. Personally I use braid b/c it floats and has no streach. Mono would be ideal if you dont like braid.

Go try to walk the dog with 12lb fluoro for a while and you'll see that it can be a big deal. It won't pull the lure under the water but sometimes it can pull the front down just enough to throw off the action. It'll make the lure work subsurface for a few twitches until you get the line back up out of the water. I  think Yo Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft 10-12lb test is perfect for topwaters (besides frogs)

Thanks for the advice.  I am determined to try the Yo Zuri Hybrid but there isn't an outdoor store here in Auburn that carries it.  In the future I may order some but I believe ill stay with Berkley Trilene XL for now.

That'll work fine too. It's a little stretchier than Yo Zuri but that should be advantageous with treble hook baits.

12lb vicious ultimate. maybe up to 14 or 17 if I am going after bigger fish and/or throwing bigger baits

I use 20# seagar mono, 1 the larger diameter floats better and helps the action. 2 . I don't know about other fellas but I usually hook up with bigger fish when i throw spooks and wake baits. I had a fish bust brand new 14# mono on the strike. fish tend to hit top-waters with a lot more ferocity then other baits 3. because it is a surface lure line size or visibility is not an issue. 4. i like to throw top-water plugs in open water near nasty stuff and have been pulled into it before. 5.

I go against the grain and use braid. It floats. Trust me it works.......back the drag off, and use a rod with a little give. The whole mono/soft rod  line of thinking for trebel hooked lure is laughable to me, I don't participate in that, and amazingly I catch a lot of fish on topwaters, and crankbaits on braid with fast action graphite rods, with few missed fish, ripped out hooks, and thrown lures, and all the other stuff they say happens if your not using mono, and "crankbait" rods.

Nothing but braid on top water, it floats and has no stretch especially on walk the dog technique, learn a good knot and you will love it

I'm useing 15lb trilene big game

Along the lines of using topwater braid, one tip ive heard is to crazy glue the last 6 inches or so leading to your lure so that the line doesnt get fouled on the hooks. Havent tried it myself so i dont know how it affects the acrion.
