Spinning: Shimano (Stella)

(if Shimano made a baitcaster as smooth and precise as their Stella spinning reel, I'd pick Shimano for all reels)  8-)

kimber is a man after my own heart.  I have 6 Lews speed spools, the Chevy 327 of reels. I can do my own repairs and they just work !

Hmmmm, daiwa for bc, pflueger for spinning but thats definately open for change. If i had to pick just one reel company for the rest of my life itd probably be shimano

feel the same way here too, I will never own another Quantum i've had two spinning reels that were high dollar garbage, can not get parts to repair them

Abu Garcia=Baitcasting

Been using them since I learned to use a baitcaster about 17 years ago.

I have Abu round reels that spent a solid 10 years or so throwing musky jerkbaits, and bucktails. Most reels made today would last a few outings musky fishing and be thrown away. Those reels still go strong. I just replaced them with newer models with instant anti-reverse.

After having a few Abu spinning reels for YEARS, I felt I should upgrade to something more modern.

I couldn't be happier with the Pflueger Supreme Great reel at a good price.

I HAVE NO FAVORITE COMPANY

They all make good products when you get to a certain pricing point.

I was totally unaware that there were any other reels on the market but shimano.  nah,  I've picked up some great daiwas and the new patriarch is pretty awesome too.  I'm waiting to see what the new revo premier wil look and feel like.  I guess the jdm version was the aurora.  I like to think that I have some pretty good gear, but to me it just doesn't get any better than a curado e7 on a falcon bucoo for the money.

Daiwa's have always been my favorite baitcasters, but I'm to the point of having about an equal mix between them and Shimano's any more. Their (Shimano's) quality has improved quite a bit recently and the Castaic thumb bar is still my favorite baitcast feature.

On spinning reels, it's almost all Daiwa's for me, though I have been known to occasionally fish with a Shimano on warm, sunny days without threat of rain  8-)

Daiwa.  But I like my Shimano Citica and Shimano Symetre spinning reel.

Quantum is my favorite company with 3 of my 4 Baitcasters being Quantum. On the Spinning side I have 4 of my 6 setups with Quantum reels. I do own a Shimano Sahara and  BPS Viper with the Shimano getting its fair share of work and the BPS reel will be a trade in to BPS in a couple weeks

I am starting to use strictly daiwa's this year I own one quantum energy baitcasting reel and I can't stand it. All my daiwa's operate alot smoother than the quantum.

I've owned em all, but it would have to be Shimano without a doubt...  But I hear once you own a Steez, it shifts your train of thought a little bit.

For a baitcaster - BPS - based on value received for dollars spent. I have a 2009 model ProLite, 4 2009 model ProQualifiers, and 2 2009 Rick Clunns. All have good bearings and dual braking. All were purchased for $80 or less each. Swept handles and drag stars, all "palm" well (with special mention to the ProLite - wish I had got a few more of those).

For Spinning reels - I have a battery of 10 mid-80s vintage Shakespere Sigma 2200s - don't need anything else...

Shimano. Bought a Quantam Energy B.C. once and it was the worst reel I have ever used. Sold it to my buddy and bought a Cuardo ;D

A better question would be, "Is he still your buddy?"

For now he still is, but I hope he never buys, or gets his hands on a Shimano cause he will then realize it's a piece of junk. Don't feel sorry for him though cause he really got over on me by buying it for quite a bit less than I paid for it.

Good choice, but I would have to go with the Sponge Bob. IMO the sensitivity is superior to the Snoopy and the drag system is hands down better than the Snoopy. Just my 2 cents though.

I own Daiwa, Shimano, Quantum, Pflueger, and Abu reels.  It's hard for me to say which is my favorite but I'm probably going for Shimano and Daiwa.  I have no problem with the other companies but I tend to use my Sol and Curado 200e5 more so than anything else in my arsenal.  I also carry my Zillion and 200e7's alot more than my Energy and Patriarchs. 

I'm with Goose52; BPS PQ baitcast reels are fine for me. I have a couple of Pflueger spinning reels that work just fine.
