Ultralight Reel?

Featured Replies

I fish UL when bass are small.. Looking for a new outfit. Any suggestions?

whatever your current favorite spinning reel is. Get the size to match a medium action rod. I fish for bluegills with a medium spinning reel and ultralight rods and it might not be perfectly balanced, but it will cast far because of the wider spool and less line twist. You can cast a long way with four lb line, a ultra light rod, and a medium reel.

A Shimano Symetre 1000?....

thats what im using on my rogue ultralight. i believe its the same size as the 750 with a bigger spool...

I have a Pflueger Arbor 7430 on my lite setup. It has the body size and weight of a 1000-series reel with the spool diameter of a 2500-series reel. Have it on a 6' lite St. Croix Premier for trout and it balances nicely.

I have a Daiwa Regal 1000Xi on my UL setup and it has a spool the size of a thimble. The line comes off in a nice tight coil, like a slinky.  ::)

Since neither manufacturer has shallow spool reels for the domestic market if it were me I would get a 2000/2500 reel, spool half of the spool with 10-12 mono as filler and the rest with 6 lbs test Hybrid or CXX.

Look at a BPS Microlite rod and Shimano Sahara 500 or 750 reel.  2-4# Silverthread AN40 will work well.

Shimano Symetre 750. Great UL reel. Been using this one for 3 years now.

The Symetre 1000 is a fine UL reel. Mine is about 7 years old and I have never had a problem.

I fished with a 750 for a while but it was a bit too small.
