Which rods to go with?

Featured Replies

Getting ready to purchase three new rods. Looking for rants and raves on the brands I've narrowed it down to. I'm looking at Falcon BuCoo/Lowrider, St.Croix Mojo, Abu Garcia Vendetta. I need to feed the monkey soon.

Out of those, after playing with them all this past weekend, I'd only consider buying the Vendetta.

I have only checked the Mojo out in the tackle store but I have used the Vendetta in several different models, spinning and casting.  They are good sticks for just knocking around or for tournaments.

I can only offer hear say. The Mojo's are not they were cracked up to be...a bit heavy/clumsy. The Vendettas seem OK with mostly good reviews. But no one has ever said a bad thing about a Falcon Rod.

Also conisder (in that price range) a BPS Extreme or a St Croix Premier. I know you may laugh at the Extreme...but I have a good friend who is fanatical about buying top end stuff...and he opts for Extreme rods.

Like I said it's here say except for those recommendations. I have both and find them a good bang fo rthe buck.

IMO, definitely the Abu Garcia Vendettas.

I updated some rods about 5 years ago. I have a good friend who works for BPS and he introduced me to the extreme series. I bought 3 rods and couldn't be happier.

Out of those, I like the Lowrider. It is a great rod.

Also in that price range, check out the Shimano Compre. Next to Powells, Lowriders, and Avids, they are a close second considering the price difference. I have 2 Compre spinning rods and they are sensitive enough to do all of my finesse fishing with.

Falcon all the way , they just introduced a new lower end rod that looks good. http://www.falconrods.com/

The original is a good value IMO.

before you make your final decision check out the jadewood series from denali its a very good rod for the under 100 dollar mark.

What are the warranties for each of these? The Vendetta, BuCoo, etc...

The vendetta's have a two yr warranty. Mojo's have a 5 yr warranty, not sure on the falcons...might be different for each rod. I think the bucoo rods have a one yr warranty. The bad i have heard about the vendettas is too much backbone not enough tip. The falcon rods are said to be softer than they are rated. I own some mojo's and to me they are a bit tip heavy and feel unbalanced with certain reels.

If your looking into a medium to MH rod go with the mojo I use those and there nice the heavys are clunkers. By the way the falcons feel in the store, Im definitly going to try one very soon.

I don't think any of the 3 is bad. With that said, for $10.00 more abu is coming out with a nicer rod late summer. Seen it at the classic, and it's preety nice. I have only fished with mojo's. I like them, all around good rod. I have handled the Vendettas, and like some one said, they are a little stiff. Also, the bucoos seem to be a little underated at each of falcons power ratings, but very sensitive. If ya can, I suggest holding each one, and buy the one that suits your technic for each rod. ya may end up with 1 of each brand or at least 2 of one brand. I plan on picking up a bucoo later, and waiting for that new abu.
