would the gloomis sr782 6'6'' L F (imx graphite) be worth the price difference over the st.croix avid AVS66LF 6'6'' L F. Price is 245 vs 160

It would for me.  I have IMXs and Avids.  Though the Avids are good rods I'll take the IMXs any day.

This is my take:

G. Loomis IMX or GLX for bottom contact and finesse.

St. Croix Avid for "moving" baits/lures.

Both St. Croix and G. Loomis deliver high quality

blanks, reel seats and other components. Both

have a reputation for state of the art engineering

and top notch craftsmanship.

G.Loomis rods are more sensitive, but that is

not as important with moving lures. If you want

to save money, I think you will be very happy

with the Avids.

The question isn't really Loomis vs St Croix but model vs. model. St Croix's Legend Elite series is SC V graphite vs. SC III in the Avid line. The SC V St Croix rods go for about the same $ as the GLoomis imx.

ive never fished an imx but i have a few of the glx rods. the glx are great and im sure the imx is too but i think avids are a better value.

for spinners and crappie jigs, i'd go avid hands down.

Haha, thats my crappie rod, too! Great little rod. Avids are a excellent value IMO.

Like roadwarrior said, there's no need to shell out mega bucks for a rod which will be tossing moving, "reaction" lures. Save the $$$ for a worm rod, or flipping stick, jig rod, shaky-head, etc.
