New Rod for Topwater spooks/shallow crankbaits.....???

Featured Replies

Right now I am using a 6'9" medium heavy fast action E21 Carrot stix for topwater.

It is great....BUT:

Should I go for the "Limber theory" for topwater??? 6'6" medium mod/fast..????

I find myself setting the hook too early/fast sometimes with my topwater baits and therefore scared of not hooking fish properly.

BUT:

I like throwing heavier topwaters and the medium heavy is good for that.

Should I stay with the medium heavy in hopes of learning to be more patient with my topwaters and feeling the weight of the fish before I set the hook.....???

HELP....???? Can not decide.

For all treble hooks you should us either

Moderate Action or Fast Action with a soft

tip. I prefer Medium Power for topwater.

My main rod is an Avid AVC66MF. Another

is a GLX PR844C.

Tackle warehouse has a rod designed for them by Powell. It is a 7ft Heavy action rod that is used for throwing spooks and big traps. Check it out on their website. It's $139. I would post the link but it won't let me post them yet.

I use a G. Loomis IMX MBR782 for this application. It's also phenomenal for suspended jerkbaits. I like the 6'6 length for walking baits, but I think the medium action is the must.

That LTX is a good topwater rod but not great for cranks.  I use the 6'10"MH Carrot Stix Gold for the purposes you are needing and couldn't ask for a better rod.
