Guys, Ive almost decided to get a curado e7, but since TW has those 09 sx's on sale I'm thinking about one of those now. Want some opions on which would be the better of the 2. If there aint much difference, I'll go with the sx for the price.

The SX works great for pitching. Its a quality reel at a very good price right now. I'd say go for it.

I think the SX is a nice reel (mine casts great!) but not my first choice for pitching light lures.  The spool is fairly large and holds lots of line so has more mass and doesn't spin up as easily as some other reels.  I also have to give it a demerit for having the opening to the level wind worm gear facing forward where it can gather grit slung off the incoming line.  Duh!  JMHO, I like a small frame reel with a light spool holding limited line for pitching.  I'm using a Chronarch 50MG.

I have an extension to this question.  I use a Curado E5 for my deep cranks and slow rolling spinnerbaits, my other two reels or a Curado E7 and a Revo SX.  Of those two, what would be the recommended designation if I was going to assign one to my pitching stick, and the other to my spinnerbait/shallow cranks rod.

I'm still playing around, switching them back and forth, but wondering if anyone has any insightful opinions?

I'd say, since you have both. Use the e7 for pitchin, and the sx for cranks/spinnerbaits.

HS Revo Sx is a great choice it is what I use. I have 65# braid and use a 15-20 # mono or flouro leader.

That isn't drag, that's pure lockdown, LOL.  In my experience, this number doesn't hold up throughout the life of the reel.  I've never gotten more than about 13 lbs. on a used Revo.  Can't imaging ever needing more than 10. 

Hook a scale to a fixed object, and set the drag for 5 lbs. by easing into a tight drag and using a straight pull.  You'd be surprised to find how much power that is. It will only take about 6-7 lbs. to break most flipping sticks in half. 

I've got a reel on the bench right now with a shattered, yes shattered, anti reverse bearing sleeve.  The drag held up, the sleeve did not.

A drag should do just that-drag. Something has to give and preferably not the rod or reel. The drag protects these as well as the terminal tackle.

I am a bit confused why drag is even an issue? your drag should be locked down as tight as you can get it when pitching and fliping.. I cant think of a situation with in 50ft fishing in junk with 65lb braid and a heavy+ powered rod that you would have to worry about setting the drag to anything else than lock down

I'm with you on this one. I just prefer the reel to have a 7:1 gear ratio. Drag doesn't matter when flipping.
