So on craigslist, I talked to a guy who has two brand spanking new reels, a C3 and C4. He says he needs to sell them to be able to get a Revo, which apparantley is better but also way out of my price range.

I picked out the C3 since its 5.4:1 for crankbaits. I picked out the C4 since its 6:1 for spinnerbaits, jigs and worms on a MH Rod.

Anyways are these good reels? Do you think this is an alright combination to have?

I forgot to mention. He is selling me both for $120

If they are fairly new or new and they a 5500 models then it is an Ok price. 

If 6500 or 5500 C3's I would say maybe get him down to 100 for both.

I can still get the C3s at walmart for $69

well the wording was extremely ambiguous. I meant that he is selling me BOTH for $120.

As in, I pay him $120 and he gives me the C3 and C4. They are brand spanking new to.

Those reels are awsome... Some of the best reels ever made... However they are not the most refined reels ever made so you will have a lot of difficulty throwing light lures... They are also not very good choices for flipping due to the slow startup of the spool. They excel at throwing big cranks and spinners as well as awsome catfishing reels..

I fished those for years before all these "refined" reels were around and was not only able to pitch or flip but also throw lightweight baits with them. Try again.

I have all but retired my 4 5500 C3's (due to weight), I have 4 4600 C3  that I use all the time, even with 1/4 oz lures and small spinners.  They are very smooth and reliable reels.   I also have 3 REVO SX's.  On distance, the REVO's may cast a yard or 2 more, but the 4600's, at least the ones I have, are fine reels. 

They are very good reels. Built like tanks. They take a little more abuse than most reels. Maintain them and you should never have an issue. I've owned a few and still use 2 regularly. Only once have I ever had an issue. I broke the levelwind but that was from "operator error"

I primarly use them for spinnerbaits, medium to large cranks, and swimbaits.

Come fall they also double as my Lake Michigan salmon reels.

If you want to throw lighter baits or plastics you'd probablt be better off if you chose another reel. Not saying the C3 won't work but the newer low profiles woul work easier.

My first car was a '48 Studebaker.  Great car, built like a tank and weighed about the same.  When I got the chance to move into a '65 Corvette, I didn't hesitate.  I feel the same way about heavy Abu round reels for bass fishing.  Sure, you can learn to use them for anything - if that "anything" weighs 3/8 oz or more.  But that doesn't mean they're a good choice compared to the lighter, more refined reels that cast light lures better and have better cast controls.  JMHO, I'd rather own 1 Revo S or Shimano Citica than the 2 Abu's mentioned.  I'm not into nostalgia reels. 

Again both for a 100 good deal.

I have one of each, no experience with other reels for comparison though.  It's a retro thing with me, price too of course.  They'll last forever and pretty easy to disassemble.  If they still have the factory grease in them you really need to change it out.  It acts more like peanut butter than grease. 

I don't think the asking price is particularly good, after you factor in shipping you could almost buy new if you find a good sale. 

'09 or '10 models then go for it, older than that.....then the price is about $30 too high.
