I'm not a fan either. I really hate throwing tiny baits. Tying dropshot rigs drives me nuts.

I've had to drag lureless line behind the boat a time or two to straighten it out.  Probably no more than I will have to pick backlashes out of my new baitcasting reels.   

But, yeah, I am finding I enjoy the baitcasters more than the spinning.

I'll take spinning rods any day. What kind of line and rigs were you using BL?

I used to think I was the most miserable man alive. I bow to the King....

What on earth were you doing to cause all that? I use spinning probably 60% of the time (I have Cores, Curados, and Calcuttas on the casting rods) and NEVER experience any of the troubles of which you speak. I guess there are a couple observations I seem to make often about "bass guys" that hate spinning tackle.

1. They often use spinning tackle that is a step down in quality from their casting tackle. This sets them up for unhappiness.

2. They almost invariably use line that is too heavy for the reel they have. No wonder you have trouble if you put #14 flouro on a 1000 size reel (not saying you did, but I see it on here a lot).

3. People spool their line incorrectly onto the reel. Having worked in a tackle shop for more than a decade I saw this weekly. A nice reel + good line (in a proper size) still equals a mad fisherman if the line isn't spooled right.

Just my $0.02.........with modern spinning tackle, there is no reason to ever have line twist issues or feel like you are undergunned.

Geez, how simple is it to use a spining rig..?

Sometimes, small baits, get big fish..

If I could catch fish on it, I'd use a stick with twine tied to the end.

Sorry to hear your troubles. I don't have issues of twist on any of my spinning rigs. Sounds like you need the sweet and sexy Stella.

what's weird is that i've been using spinning reels since the late 80's and i've never heard of line twist being a problem until i found this forum a couple years ago.

im not sure what ive been doing right or i'd suggest it.

Please send me all your spinning outfits since you all hate (Burleytog & Dan+)them so much and I will fish happily ever after.

Funny, I generally use spinning gear when I need reliable line management.  Maybe you should try a Daiwa spinning reel  ;D ;D

I guess that's why I'm also shifting to casting reels with "training wheels"   ;D ;D

Line twist on spinning gear has always been an issue.  They have come out with reels that have a type of groove in them that reduces the twist by about 3 times.  For those who report they have never had an issue with line twist, PLEASE SEND ME YOUR SECRET!!!!!!  If you've figured out to fish spinning gear without line twist, you could write a column on it and send it in and let the world know cuz you would relieve all kinds of stress for the common man/woman.  I just can't imagine what it would be like to fish with no line twist--must be a little like fishing heaven.  Fish on.  John.

The trick with spinning is the smaller the line the better. I use 20lb or 15lb power pro with a 10lb seaguar inviszx leader. Never had one problem. Try it and youll see. I used that on a crappy uglystick combo i had and i now use it on my sustain/cumara combo. It has never failed me and i use spinning probably 25% of the time

Are you using mono or flouro?  Is the key, large pound test with a small pound diameter?  I use 6 pound now for rivers and creeks and I have line twist--way more with flouro.  Any special reel?

Spinning Gear Rules:

1. Use a good quality Spinning Reel (doesn't have to be a Steez), cheap spinning reels suck and are a pain in the butt.

2. Use the line weight thats rated for your reel.

3. Spool the reel properly (to avoid line twists)

4. Close the bail manually, do NOT ever close the bail by turning the handle (it will cause line twists).

I've been finesse fishing 60% of the time with spinning gear this year and NOT had any issues or line twists.

My setup: Steez 2500 spinning reel w/8# P-Line CX premium line (Steez CompileX 6'8" ML spinning rod)

He uses 8 lb. Pline on it (not sure if it's CX or CXX). I use 6-8 lb. Berkley Vanish or 100% Flouro and haven't had near the issues he has with my spinning gear. I needed to put new line on one of my spinning reels and forgot to do it the night before and started to do it on the way to the lake Saturday with some of his Pline, glad I didn't after listening to him cuss it all day.

I'm starting to live off the 6 and 8 pound 100% since the spawn is coming up. I still don't understand all the flouro and spinning reel issues.

All of my experiences with P-Line (with the exception of CXX on a casting reel) have been things I want to forget.

Burley, tell us exactly what you were doing? As I best recall, you hate spinning gear anyhow, right? Just got back into fishing, went out for two days, wasn't even like learning to ride a bike again. Thought I would have been rusty, but it's like I never stopped. I've had one line twist in the last 6 years, and that was with an old reel. Like steezy & Leon said, quality reel, I use 6lb Yz hybrid, follow the line/lure rec's and zero problems. If you're fishing light stuff, what about your Curado, thought they great for light stuff?

Wish I could understand all the issues with P-Line on spinning reels, I swear it works perfect for me which is why I fish with it so much.  I wish you guys were coming to the roadtrip, I would gladly let you try my setup for a day just to show you how well it works.

Do you know if P-Line's products have a thicker diameter than most lines? I feel like 10 pound CX and CXX feels more like a 12.
