crankin rod suggestions?

Featured Replies

I am in the process of buying a new crankin rod and I was wondering what suggestions ya'll may have.  I have been looking at the KVD tour crankin rods or maybe even the carrot crankin stick. Do ya'll have any suggestions? I am looking in the $75-$150 range

thanks!

If you can find a deal on our Flea Market

or somewhere else on the internet, Avid

AVC70MM would be my recommendation.

I don't think you will be upset with the Lucky Craft rod Kyntucky is mentioning.

I have used it on a few different occasions and I can tell you that it is the BOMB for throwing deeper divers.

The KVD Tour is a good one.  The 7'4 or 7'10 would fit the bill nicely.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest the 7'6 Wright & McGill Tessera Swimbait/Carolina Rig rod.  I haven't used it, but given it's rating and listed action, it should be a great deep crankbait rod.  I'm still searching for one locally.

I would take a look at the Gblanks website. You can pick out the weight and action, length and handle style, and even wrap color with your name on rod for125.00.I own one of his crankers and would put it up against most any.I think George Welcome on here favors his rods if Im not mistaken.

I checked out a Team All Star cranking rod at Gander Mountain this weekend.  Very nice feel to it.  Nicely made.  No frills, but it would get the job done very nicely.  $79.

frogtog gave me the 7'2 MH model last year when I fished with him.  Have been using it for the last year throwing DD22's, SK Series 5, 6 and 6XD, and various other deep cranks.  It's a very nice cranking rod.

St. Croix Glass Crankbait Series, American Rodsmith's David Fritts Crankbait Rods, or even Browning Silaflex, which is only about $40 but are rated higher than BPS crankin' stix. I have a silaflex it is fantastic for cranks, topwaters, and spinnerbaits. I prefer fast graphite for hard jerks though, gives them better action.

I have never used either of these. However, I can tell you I wouldn't consider the Carrot stick based on comments I've read about it since getting back into fishing this past Feb. Apparently it is a light stick and very sensitive. BUT I read of too many breaking. I remember one post where the guy had been through 3 or 4 of them. He loved the rod for the reasons I mentioned, but was getting tired of replacing it so he posted asking about a rod with like characteristics, but reliable.

Naturally there are guys using them with no problem whatsoever. It is just that I can't afford to take a chance of spending money on a rod in hopes of getting one that holds up. I realize you can get a bad rod from any manufacturer. I have to put the odds in my favor. Money doesn't grow on trees in my area. :) :)

I would do some more research before deciding on the Carrot stick.

Kistler magnesium is an awesome crankin stick teamed up with a revo premier for all medium diving cranks.
