I kinda like the round style myself.Why? just seems a little more old school

I like both and therefore, no real preference. I agree with you about how cool and old school round ones look.

have both, i dont really have a preferenced though the low profiles are much lighter but most round ones are indestructable

i only have fished with low profile bait casters. i would love to have a smaller round reel like an abu 4601/5601 (im a lefty cranker) but when i held them in stores , they felt awkward... 

About 85% Of my reels are Daiwa Low profile's the other 15% is Daiwa Millionaire 103's M ITO's and other Limited edition Millionaires on the 103 frame and 2 Ryoga 1016's..

Low profile reels are my fav however I do really love my round reels theres just something about the way a small framed round reel sits in your palm..

I have fished with Conquest 50 and I only fish Daiwa but d**n that reel felt nice in the hand and preformed.

and dont let anyone tell you round reels cant cast the really light baits or cast as far as your low pro reels... thats bull Round reels can be rockets and my M-itos and Millionaire lights and Bay Specials can really get down low they will cast with my Steez's all day long with the right rod, line and maybe a bearing upgrade Daiwa Gold bearings are very very good tho.

depending on what your doing the SOL might not hold enough line.. I love all my Different types of Alphas's (same frame as the SOL) they are awesome casters and just disappear in your hand and feel so good to palm because there so tiny. the Luna will not handle light lures even close to the sol but they will be a great casting reel with ide say 3/8oz or more of weight. The Luna will make you a better all around reel if you have only one BC reel it can handle more lures then the sol.. those reels are totally different not just in shape...

To give you an idea you would not want to go out and fish a DD22 crank on the SOL but the luna would handle it really well... you wouldnt want to fish a weightless worm on the luna but the SOL will throw it a mile... the SOL is a light lure light line type of reel... the Luna is a tank of a reel that can crank in and cast large lures and not feel like your fighting a boat when throwing hard pulling lures like big blades or deep cranks. I know this post is long lol but Im just trying to tell you what the real differences are and not just how the reel looks/feels. I have a Luna 253 and the reel is smooth and cast really well.. I fish 22#  Sunline Shooter FC on it for throwing big baits...It holds like 110-120 yards of that line and its just a tank of a reel.. so think about what you will be doing with the reel and that will tell you what type of reel to buy... The SOL is a sweet reel and My Luna is nice to.. A lot of people on this site really loves SOL's and for good reason.

I don 't choose my reels because of their old school vs new school look, I choose them for their ergonomics, how they sit on the rod and how comfortable they feel. I 've got small hands and even though there are some very small round reels still they sit high on the rod and I can 't palm them well reason why I don 't purchase round bc 's.

I prefer low-profile for bass fishing. Anything heavier with larger lures i like round reels

For Bass fishing and lighter saltwater, I'd much rather use a low profile.  I do have an older Calcutta here at the house that I don't use all that much.  The round reels just don't sit comfortable in my hands on casting rods.  I'll only use it if I'm throwing heavier baits like jigging spoons or larger swimbaits.

Same here...Curado 301 for swimbaits..

I don't believe I've ever put any of my reels through the wind tunnel.   

I prefer low profiles...they fit better in my hands.

I plan to give the round ones another chance next year.Been looking at the Calcutta's 50's-100"s sizes.

I cant use a round reel because of the way I fish.  It just doesnt work.

I use ABU 4600C3 (4) and ABU Revo SX (3) interchangeably.  4600's on 7ft rods and SX on 6.6 rods.

I prefer round reels like Cabelas discontinued Prodigy round reel. I like the feel, and with the right rod, will cast as good (or better) than anything I have tried.
