Pline CXX

Featured Replies

Any of you guys use this line?  I'm looking for a tough mono for Pitching that is manageable.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Geez...

You have been around long enough to know we have lots of

CXX fans. It was my favorite for several years, I'm sure you

will like it just fine.

I've been using 15 and 20 pound Hybrid lately for the same basic thing.  Couldn't really be happier with it.

CXX left a horrible taste in my mouth.

me toooo i hated that line, trilene big game ;)

I have been using the 10lb for a while now. I really like it, but I use braid for flippin and pitchin.

JMHO, CXX is tough stuff. But it has what I'd call a 'greasy feeling surface finish' that didn't cast or pitch very well for me. Others think it works just great, so I guess it's a matter of taste. For me, Izorline Premium has a hard slick finish that casts well and is also tough. Plus, it's sold at a very good price. Both CXX and Izor will develop spool memory faster than softer texture lines, so every choice in fishing line has its pros and cons.

I love CXX.  It is really freakin' tough line.  I have pulled some good sized fish out of the thick stuff using 17lb. CXX.  Thats the line I flip/pitch with.  I have also broken a couple jig hooks trying to free them from snags.  The line is also really abrasion resistant which drastically cuts down on how often you have to retie.

That said, it does have some memory but after a few casts it straightens itself out and becomes easy to fish.  Pick up a spool and see for yourself.  Its actually pretty cheap.

I used it in 12 and 15# this year on several baitcast rigs. I like it a lot, and will have it spooled on all my reels come spring.

My brother likes Pline cxx and I tried it on his recommendation. Went back to Yo-zuri.

just as unmanageable but weaker.

I like CXX, use it from 8-20lb.  I crank with 10lb, spinnerbaits-12lb, flip/pitch-14-17lb, swimbaits-20lb

When I tried that line (12lb), I found it to be probably the toughest line (besides braid) that I have ever used, however, it had memory issues, and I lost some casting distance. It is pretty sensitive, and it is very reasonably priced. I switched up to the CX Premium, and liked that a lot more. I actually still have a reel spooled with the Premium for night fishing, because it glows under black light, and is pretty strong stuff, but I won't go back to CXX.

CXX and manageable in the same sentence ?   :-?

Not saying the line is bad, on the contrary, I think is the best line I 've fished for fishing abrassive conditions ( chunk rock, tough brus ) but manageability is not one of it 's properties.
