I know he will use a 7-foot medium heavy with fast action tip for crankbaits but I have no idea what he was using in the tournament.

He also uses 12-pound fluorocarbon line to get the crank down to its correct depth.

Once KVD told me to use 17-pound test on cranks bu they were the 2-5 foot square bills.

I think he changes his tackle for each situation he encounters. 

Probably one of his signature series rods or his Tour KVD rods for the crankbaits.

This is true.

He spoke during the press conference after the win and was using 20lb flouro because he wasn't fishing deep. For some reason 6'6" MH stands out in my mind about the rod. I could be wrong.

I don't know about the classic, but on the show "Bass Pro's, he was using a 7' MM Quantum tour KVD for the square bill cranks.

With the crank, he employed his signature series Quantum Tour KVD cranking rod, which is a fiberglass/graphite blend.

I know pictures don't exactly show what seems to be true life size.  But in the pictures when he is going by Martens or Rook, and some of the other pictures, the rod looks like a longer style judging by his body and positioning.  But pictures can make things bigger than they appear, I thought all them fish he was pulling out were at least 6lbs....OH WAIT>...They were!

but honestly...what does it matter?  I've never understood the fascination with knowing EVERYTHING about a tournament win...It isn't the rod, boat, line, reel, bait, or cereal bar that wins a tournement, it's the angler.  I know the pro's may plug certain specifics and everyone goes into an uproar about it because they saw them using something different.  I never saw Velvick even touch a Duckett rod on Clear lake during the Bassmasters "coverage" but it was credited for the win.  I doesn't matter if Harry puts specially matched tires on the car and you pass on the outside....rubbins racing.

Actually, IIRC, the Bassmaster publication said he was throwing those rago swim baits on a Falcon....

Excuse me for asking a simple question. It had nothing to do with who won what. I bought several square bills this winter and have been looking for a rod to throw them on. Maybe I should of ask another Revo vs. P.Q. question. Thanks to those of you who tried to help out.

would that 7ft medium also be good for 1/2 oz red eye shads? ripping through stuff? those kvd rods do look bulky and not sure how the weight is on them?

They're not that heavy, really.  In terms of a graphite/glass composite blank they're actually reasonably light.  I've fished the 7-4 M for ripping through grass and really liked it for that purpose.

I agree that rods are rather light even though looking at them they are somewhat bulky. I've handled them in BPS and was surprised at how light they felt.

Looking at the ESPN coverage... The rod he was using on the last day was super long...I would bet my money on his 7'10 medium heavy tour edition...I wouldn't put it past him having a custom 7' something in a medium action.  He was wrecking those stumps and they said he would break off before going over to get a crank so I guessing that would hard on a medium rod.
