I had some fish break off this past week.. its brand new vicious flourocarbon.. ive had the same problem with other lines. ive been tying an improved clinch.. what knot do i need to tie and where can i find a website that shows me how to tie it?? I appreciate all advice...

Berkley recommends a Trilene knot. Most on this board will recommend a Palomar knot. Actually an improved cinch knot should be good. Whatever knot you choose be careful not to generate heat when cinching the knot. Heat will weaken the knot. And be sure to lube before cinching down the knot...............Al

I'm pretty much stuck on the Berkley Braid knot but whatever you're comfortable with...

Make sure the knot is lubed and make sure it seats properly. If it seems wrong, it is... retie it. With Fluoro, inspect and retie alot. This will help with break offs.

I use Uni for everything...It never lets me down

Never have broke a fish off with a Uni Knot. Have had to tie knot again when I did not seat it correctly. Lube good with spit.

Uni knot for any fluoro that I can cinch down (17# test and under)

palomar for anything real heavy (20# test plus) as the line is too thick to cinch.

Thats about the only knot I tie now for a line to lure connection.  As much as I like the Palomar, I've found that this knot is better "for me" with fluorocarbon and co-poly lines.  The old standard Uni is a very close second.

Uni on flouro and coploy, Braid an mono get the palomar.

Palomar for hooks, trilene for jigs/cranks...ever tried to tie a palomar on a 6" redfin?    ;D

I've been tying a Eugene knot for fluorocarbon.  I read in Bassmaster from Gary Klein that a Eugene knot is a better choice on fluorocarbon compared to the clinch knot.  I also tie the Speed knot as of more recently, which as far as I can see is sort of a variation on the Eugene but it's a lot faster to tie.  Haven't had one unravel or break yet. 

I've also got to side with the uni knot my friend. I use to loose the occasional fish due to a bad knot. Then I leaned the uni when I started using braid. I started using fluro and noticed the trilene knot was slipping. So I used the uni and I haven't lost a fish due to a knot since.
