Powell Max 703c rod with a Revo S reel..  6.4:1 gear ratio.. can't beat it at a medium price..  rod (139$) reel can be found for arouns (100)

Okay... I'll throw in my pick out of a thousand options. St Croix Mojo and a Shimano Citica. Combo could be found new for around $200. You don't want to be out on the water without your Mojo.
