keeping track of spinnerbait weights

Featured Replies

I'm wondering if this has been posted before, but how do you guys keep track of all the different weights of your spinnerbaits? I've read of guys taking a fine point Sharpie marker and writing dive depths on the bottom lips of their crankbaits. But what can you do to help remember all the different weights in a binder full of spinnerbaits?

i take a small piece of masking tape or medical type and tape around the wire to make a tag then just write down the wieght on it    nothing fansy just enough so u know how much it weights and so it comes off easy when u go to fish with it

Just write the weight on a blade with a fine point sharpie.

I don't. I pick my spinner baits based on size, blades and color. The actual weight doesn't matter. BTW, I fish a spinner bait probably 50% of the time.

Do the same, just write it on either the blade and or the actual weight of the spinnerbait.

Thanks everybody.

Sounds like general consensus is the Sharpie marker. Guess i need to get me one.

Just look at them, in time you will know approx. how much it weighs..   :-?

Hey P/P, that doesn't leave enough time for work, sleep, and eatin'.. ;D

I never thought about the writing the depth the bait will run with a sharpie on the bill or the weight of a spinnerbait.  Looks like I found my project for the night.

Pencil Pusher said it all.

The blades and colors are very important.

You should know your spinnerbaits by weight by looking at them.

Store them by weight in a tackle storage box if you want and then change out the skirt colors.

And before you hit the water you should have an idea of the water clarity and cloud cover and structure in the body of water you are fishing and rig your rods and reels for the types of baits you want to use, including a spinnerbait.

If you take too many spinnerbaits you will go totally nuts on the water.

I used to use one of those craft paint markers to write on the concave side of the blade. Now that I only use 1/2oz, I have no need.

I bought a small electronic scale from the local head shop for $15.00 about a year ago . I got tired tring to guess the weights of all my related terminal tackle, jigs, spinners ect. (You would be surprised how much a jig weighs with a skirt on) After a couple of fishing tips I reorganise them in my box.
